Probably won’t get an MG4 again

I had a 2015 Skoda Octavia, lovely car but on occasion if a car in front was turning left and you didn't slow down enough, even though you were never going to hit it, it would slam the brakes on and a big red warning would flash up on the dash.
I find my current Kia (and the wife's Mazda) a bit more forgiving, they beep and flash warnings up but very rarely brake.

The problem with the MG4 there is no warning prior to the brakes slamming on in the incidents described previously. It's not like it's telling you it will brake if you don't, it just suddenly does it with no warning. Then stops the accelerator from working so you're stuck until you push the brake and reset it.

Must admit, I have the 1st version MG4 with no updates (I put big signs on the steering wheel, at service) & use it in default mode (no buttons needed when setting off) = never had this, I get an odd warning if pedestrians are close at the near side. Ive just booked in my 3rd service - 40k miles (was allowing the SC077? update ), but with this, i'll still give any updates a miss.

I forgot to report back, out of the two settings that can be set to low/moderate/high the brake assist one seems to default to moderate on mine.

That could be true, when the car auto braked in the car park at work I don’t think I got a warning. But driving around town it warns me every now and again when I’m approaching another vehicle (say at some traffic lights for instance)

Two different systems - one gives you an advance warning of a possible collision if you don't take action then brakes if you don't. The other jams on the brakes without warning and causes an instant stop. Only the latter is an issue.

Same here. My "77" is the best car I've ever owned. The last car I've had that was as much fun to drive was an Alfa Romeo Berliner 1750 back in the late 70s.

Yes, What you would call an "ER" in the UK.

Here in Australia it's an "MG4 Essence Long Range 77". I use the moniker "77" because that is the most consistent bit of nomenclature between regions.
