Public charging issue

Hi. I can charge at home charger, DC charging no problem but when I go to public AC charger the cable locks in at both ends and charger states charging, but in vehicle display it says charge plug connected, not charging. I have tried starting from app, informant display tried charging process many times locking unlocking etc etc. Has anybody had this issue. Who is best to contact MG. Card / energy provider or charger provider. I look forward to any ideas. Thank you

I think (it’s been a while so memory might be dodgy) when I’ve had issues with public charging, it’s generally been something I was able to resolve by unplugging from the car, swiping my card on the charge point, waiting until it tells me to plug in the car, plug into the car, then off it went. On the occasion that didn’t happen, locking the car kicked it into action.

It’s only ever happened to me on the higher speed charge points, for whatever reason some of those (or more likely the car) seem to be picky as to the process.

Does your car have a rear wiper?

Is your cable single or three phase?

Have you access to another cable?

At home are you using the granny charger or a wall-mounted unit?

Thanks for the infirmation. Perhaps those in Scotland might like to comment.

So you have only tried 1 provider? Have you a supermarket nearby with 7kW AC EVSEs (eg Tesco/Pod Point) as these usually give a few minutes of free charging?

According to Traffic Scotland the EV Chargers (colloquial) at Loch Lomond are 22kW. They provide 3 phase power, so there maybe a problem with your car charging from such a charger - which should not happen.

Sorry if I offend you but what was your car's SOC versus the battery level required.

Thanks. I just was checking if charger was working as did not work on other charger there.
Think I have established issue. The car will not charge if it is unlocked as soon as you open door it stops charging, I don’t know if this is normal. Every day a school day with an EV

It should start charging whilst unlocked but if you unlock while charging on AC it will stop but starts again after a while (it won't restart on a paid charger as you have terminated the session)

I find that mine still charges if unlocked, but if you open either front door the charge session stops. (At home it'll then restart after a short period).

I've not tried opening the rear doors or boot to see if that also stops the session.

Opening the boot has no effect and it carries on charging

Opening the boot doesn't unlock the doors or (more importantly) charging port, so charging continues.

Hi Johnaf, it's normal for it to stop charging as you open the door. As it turns out I had a similar scenario here in Kinloch Rannoch yesterday. I was resolving an issue with the rapid charger which was coming up with a red warning light on either Chademo or CCS. I was speaking to Support, about it and had moved on to the AC charger, rated at 43kW but limited to 6.4 by the car, when I got back in the car from the driving rain?️ and wind ?️ for the umpteenth time?, it stopped charging. Support told me to wait and it started charging on it's own.

The solution to the DC charging fault was for Support to do a remote reset...so I had to get out again in a howling gale, disconnect from AC charge point, he carried out the reset and within a few minutes of the charger going through its start up procedure it came back to life. I was then able to charge on the rapid charger normally. Now I'm well soaked?.

For those of you that are Octopus Electrocard or Electroverse app users be forewarned that they do not work on all ChargePlaceScotland chargers. This is what I was trying to do at KR and neither would work. The RFID card was not recognised and the Electroverse app, though displaying the charger wouldn't start it and saying I was charging already, it wasn't even connected because the plug wouldn't release from the holder. So with Support's patience trying to second guess what I was trying to tell him and because of a dodgy mobile phone signal...probably exacipated by the foul weather, we started charging. I have to give CPS Support a mention because, although new to the job, he prevailed in helping me get charged up in the most trying of circumstances.
I just wish users would report faults to the Hotline so they can deal with it by a 'Vulcan Nerve Pinch' or report it to the host for repair.

I've got a backpacker's waterproof poncho which is pretty damn effective. Although I do think that DC chargers (at least) should have canopies.
