Rain sensor windscreen wipers

Agreed, I've never had an automatic system that worked well, being in control is better. I do still sometimes wait for the automatic wipers to start, but I'm sure I'll outgrow that soon enough.
My auto wipers in the MG ZS, the MG5 and now the e Berlingo have all been fine.
The only car that allegedly had the facility but didn’t work properly on the one day out of the eight that I “owned” the heap was the mercedes - gosh I hated that bag o’ bolts - does it show ?

I guess technically I've only ever had the one system, as all my previous cars are Peugeots. But that system wasn't great. It wasn't unusable, but not really good enough. Slow to respond to initial rain, and would go full speed for no apparent reason sometimes.

Have to say auto wipers are a waste of time. I'm glad the MG4 doesn't have them. If you don't know when to turn your wipers on, when needed, you perhaps shouldn't be driving. And similar with auto lights, they where crap on my last car a Merc, as where the auto wipers. To be fair though, the auto lights on my X Power seem to work well. 🙂👍

Aye I suppose that describes the Citroen system accurately too as they’ll be identical. So it’ll boil down to the horses for course’s explanation?

Did you ever lubricate
Your engine’s upper parts ?
Squirt a drop of Redex
Into your engine’s heart
I did, I did, I really really did
And stuff in the gearbox too
Molybdenum Disulphide
Such a lovely slippery goo
But soon I learned a lesson
As I spent out all that cash
My wallet it went vacant
Cars still turned to trash.
I gave up that nonsense
When Wattage fuelled it all
I haven’t heard of additives
To enhance a battery’s haul
But no doubt it’ll happen
A guy will con us at the mart
With a triple A attachment
To automate the sound of a very loud exhaust.

In the UK. My ZS exclusive 2020 has them. Mostly they are just about adequate but occasionally go berserk, or I have to operate them manually. Not a good system, sadly.
As mentioned elsewhere, the driver’s side wiper chattering is really annoying and, I find, dangerous at night when the streaks scatter light, obscuring vision. Has anyone found a solution to this?

Saw something on Facebook today about chattering wipers, apparently it's due to the wiper arm being twisted.
In the video, they put the wipers in the park position, remove the blade and gently place the wiper arm on the screen. This shows the blade connection part on the end of the arm as not being flat (square) to the screen. They twist the arm to make the connector part square to the screen, refit the blade and then the judder has gone.

How old are your blades?
If more than two years old it might be worth replacing them with some Bosch Aerotwins. They are far superior to the standard MG ones.

Indeed, the MG4 lacks a rain sensor, but I find its speed-dependent auto wipe is actually pretty good and much more consistent than many rain sensor cars I have driven, where sometimes a fine mist sends the wipers crazy and sometimes in a downpour they are like a French air traffic controller - permanently on strike!
