So lads finally got round to changing my reduction gearbox fluid. I did cheat by having access to a ramp but it's an easy job even without a ramp.
Car is 2022 MG5 LR pre facelift with 18,000 miles.
5x 10mm bolts on the front of under try, then a few Phillips screws around the outside of the under tray. Slipped the tray off and undid a handfull of velcro straps that hold the foam cover to the bottom of the motor.
Easy to see the filler and drain plugs although I did push the top cover out the way a bit so I didn't spill new oil on it.
Top plug is a 17mm bolt and the bottom is an old style square head bolt. I used an adjustable spanner on the bottom bolt. Note that the drain bolt (bottom) has red thread locker on it.
Drained out 0.7 litres, it was black with some silver sludge. Installed drain plug. New oil is smelly but clear. It's readily available in the UK on the brown and gammon website.
I used a screwdriver to poke a hole in the lid and l pushed in an old plastic tube. Then I poke a small hole in the neck and used compressed air to force the oil out the bottom and up the tube. See the photos
Put 0.9 litres in as it seems to be the most common amount that comes out. Also Autodata lists 0.9 as the correct amount.
Installed the filler plug, put back the 2 covers and went through the 3 gears for good measure. Driven it 50 miles so far with no issues. No noticeable benefits but will be changing it every 4 years.
Cost came to £44.65 plus an hour of my time. Definitely achievable at home by just jacking up the OS front and using a large jug + turkey banister.
