Reading this post I see Sat Nav Updates are supported by Navieextras Toolbox has anyone used this for their MGS6 yet? How did you find the process, if you have?

At the moment there is no Mac support for the MGS6 so thats me stuffed, thankfully there's time for MG to remedy that situation before my car arrives. Although I confess I generally use Maps through CarPlay anyway.

You can see it's not listed in the vehicle options, I'm guessing the updated MG4 will be the same going forward as there is a lot similar with their new screens and layout.

Clearly didn't pay attention enough as I looked at MG6 Europe forgetting I SHOULD be looking at MG6 EV which as you rightly say is not listed! 🤦‍♂️

Yes, it does say that "Updating the navigation system in an MG S6 EV (and other modern MG EVs) is generally done via Over-the-Air (OTA) updates or through a USB drive using the Naviextras Toolbox"

If anyone wants to play around and try the manual update, instructions are here and it also says "the latest macOS version and the two preceding versions" are supported, too. It doesn't say how old these instructions are ...

I have had previous MG vehicles that needed the naviextras toolbox to update the satnav systems and maps. Those vehicles basically run the satnav off the downloaded database.

On the S6, to my surprise that the satnav is all run off online. So now it becomes a smart satnav with live traffic etc.

Yes, I also updated mine but the updates were usually 6 months old files, not worth bothering with if you have to use USB .. S6 is ideally supposed to be connected to a house wifi for updates, read somewhere that there is a 1gb monthly limit on car data...

I have mine linked to the house wifi and it does seem it’s updating, I posted this picture on another thread, was parked in Hillsbourgh Forest and the graphics for trees and important buildings near by showed up, hadn’t been there the previous week.

Definitely live traffic info is a big bonus comb8ned with the hud linked to navigation.

I never bothered to pay to update the map through USB as I used CarPlay. But back in the days they did have the latest map guarantee after you bought the vehicle you had something like 90 days to update to the latest map. However I did update the satnav system files via USB.

Used the S6 satnav on a 150 miles drive yesterday and it’s pretty good. Previously mentioned by others much more details on the maps now. Like the directions up on the HUD. It also does give live traffic albeit abit late as I was stuck on the M1 for 2hrs.

I'm yet to try s6 navigation on a longer journey, it's good because it's linked to the battery charge and should be able to suggest charging points along the route (from what I've seen on YouTube) and maybe better than Google maps in that respect but unfortunately, for live traffic updates, it can't beat Google, Apple and Waze ... Be interesting to see whether we can use both navigation options at the same time ...I think someone on the forum tried already...

With my ZS, those USB map updates were free for 5 years but I didn't bother after the first update ...

Yea I updated the first map update to the latest map in my HS and never did any update after.

Indeed the S6 satnav does include the battery charge level and it does show all the charging stations. I usually use TomTom Go in Apple CarPlay but this S6 iGO satnav system might also be the way to go.
