Should i buy phase one MG4 in 2024

So there was no more phase 2 cars on stock when i apply for government funds, and i just wondering is it ok to buy phase one today? The car is stated as MY23, so probably early 2023.. i know about rear wiper and OPD, it's not that big of a deal for me, what about software updates? I suppose car will get them normally as newer versions..

So you have invented a new phrase for version, which messes up the fact that EVs can charge on AC (alternate current) using multiple phases?
Slightly confusing given that this forum is about electric vehicles

Nothing to do with charging - some early cars don't have the rear wiper and a few other things that were added in mid 2022

Yes every car have different version, evolving (or the contrary ?) over time.

Back to the phases; always buy a phase 3 if your grid supports it (well, even if it doesn't, as it's future proof). I find it hard to support phase 1 (but I live in a market where 3 phases are standard)

Back to the OP's original question. The earlier cars should get the same updates as the later ones if the dealer has done their job properly.
As it's the earlier model check the car hasn't been bound to someone else's phone.

I was worried about the lack of rear wiper having had one in all previous cars. So far it hasn't been a problem.

Perhaps I will feel differently in my first December but so far so good.

There were some real bargains out there for second hand EVs last time I checked. Just check why it is being sold and try to make sure you aren't buying a lemon - sadly all manufacturers produce the odd lemon car.

Same here. I actually find I have a better unobstructed view out the back compared to cars I’ve owned before with a rear wiper. On the odd occasion when I’m driving slowly and moisture doesn’t clear, I just switch the demister on for a few minutes.

I got a "phase 2" car, and the rear wiper is functional. The additional back headrest is kinda useless as it blocks a big portion of the rear window, so it's sitting somewhere in my house at the moment.

In terms of software, I think it's the latest. And they all still have the warping floor panel issue, each car is just different extent. Make sure to ask the dealer to retrofit a hold down piece to flatten the panel before you pick it up.

The "phase 1/2" terminology comes from MG, it wasn't invented on this forum. People do find it confusing so using "model year" is often clearer but the easy well to tell them apart is that Phase 2 cars have the third middle rear headrest and a rear windscreen wiper.

Agree, still it’s better than not having one. I tend to forget how to use it, as it’s a button on the lever which I’ve never had on previous cars.

I believe the rear wiper was added because of customer feedback. It wasn't that people really needed one - it was that they spotted the lack of one and the fear that this might be a problem became a reason not to buy MG.

Quite a few products have features designed to reassure and not to spook people by their absence or their strangeness, something Tesla need to learn if they ever want to appeal to the mainstream.

When you live in a country where, more often than not, there is water on the rear screen when you get in the car then I prefer to have a rear wiper to clear the screen.

The Honda Civic was was of the first cars I was aware of that removed the rear wiper and had to reinstate it on future models. Next gen Ioniq 5 has also reverted to having a rear wiper due to "customer feedback"

Also find that as you move off, at speeds under 30mph any water on the rear spoiler and roof drips on to the rear screen and the wiper helps to clear this. Same thing happens when you have been stopped at traffic lights in the rain.

Rear wiper every time for me.

I would skip on a MY22/23, there were some lemons in the phase 1, and even if you don't get an abject lemon, depending on what you do with the car, there are still so many quirks and bugs in the software/firmware and the various versions of them out there in the field.

I genuinely regret choosing my MG4 Trophy, the Hyundai Ioniq I had previously was fantastic, this car is not only costing me more, but is more problematic, and only moved due to PCP coming up for movement.
