Mornin' Folks,

I bought a 2023 MG4 SE standard a couple of weeks ago and in the main, I'm reasonably happy with it (1st EV I've had).

When i shutdown the car from the screen menu it powers down OK (radio stays on) but when i open the driver's door and start to get out the system powers up again (headlights back on etc). It also powers up when opening the driver's door as I'm getting in (from locked).
I'm definitely not making contact with the brake pedal at any stage of exiting or entering. I was under the impression that it only powered up once the brake pedal is depressed?

Possible software fault? (installed software version is R13)

It's booked in to have the software updated on Wednesday and I've mentioned the powering up thing to them...

I'm still in the 30 day 'rejection' period for a faulty car - would just like to know if it is actually a fault or normal?

Cheers

Just a side effect of your rear end being the on switch. I have had times when I just reached into the car for something and too much pressure on the drivers seat cushion fires things up.

You have to pretend you are in Mission Impossible and leave the car without putting any pressure on the drivers seat

It's just because the driver's seat switch is too sensitive, it's impossible to get out of the car by simply lifting your bum off the seat, there's inevitably a bit of shuffling as you get out, so you inadvertently put a bit of weight back on the seat and power the car up again. I now know I have to get out of the car, and reach back in to do the final shutdown confirmation press.

I have never ever shutdown my car using the screen ... I simply get out, close the driver's door and press the Lock button on the keyfob (or the door). 🤷‍♂️
I do it when I'm washing the car, I want wipers in the service position, drls off, and doors unlocked.

I wonder if the menu shutdown is just for instances where you need to remain inside the vehicle for e.g. waiting for someone?
You also use it to put the wipers into the maintenance position so you can lift them when cleaning the car or replacing the wiper blades

With my trial this morning, with and without the radio on, the car did not power up again after shutting down in the car and then getting out.
Mine is so sensitive just moving slightly on the seat causes the car to come back on even when not leaving the car.

The other gotcha is getting back in the car with a wet windscreen and the wipers left on, it restarts just quick enough to flick the water over the inside of the door as you close it. You soon get used tom it, so much so that now almost every time I get out of the Niro I forget to shut the car down so it bleeps at me and refuses to lock.
