Tailgate Gas Struts

I did the bonnet one too, harder in my opinion but once you get the hang of it, it isn’t too bad. I would also suggest remove the post you can use to hold the bonnet open afterwards as you no longer need it anyway and my struts were knocking it out of the latch when I opened it.

I was able to do it with one hand by loosening the struts first and holding the tailgate open with one had while doing it with the other.
I did mine on my own. Used an umberella located in the boot catch cavity at rear of boot floor. Easy peasy. They work a dream boot opens smoothly and damped by the gas struts. Brillant upgrade for about £25.

mine is a little stiff but I have sent a video to the seller as they told me to so I should be getting a replacement sent out.

I've found that you can just buy those helper springs, and add them to your existing struts. The ends of the strut usually just unscrew, then add the spring, reattach the end, and refit to the car.

There are various options on length of spring. Would someone who has fitted these be kind enough to measure the length of their springs please.

I can once I get the new ones, if I measured my current ones they would work but be slightly stiff, surely the power of the strut hydraulic would effect it too tho.

Those are both good points. The springs sold are colour coded, and so you can specify stronger/weaker ones or go for shorter length.

Strut power is likely neglible. If they could achieve the same self opening effect by increasing strut power, why are the helper springs needed?
