The Ultimate MG5 "Real World" Energy Consumption Thread

I just got back from a month on the road through France, Switzerland and Italy. Fully loaded 5LR with 2 adults and 2 kids. Trips up the Alps as well as a few spells of 130kph motorway driving (although mainly stuck to around 100/110kph as 130 seriously drains the range!). Eco with Kers3 ad A/C on for whole time as had many days of 30/40c heat. Very happy with 3.8m/kWh for the trip!

Quite amusing stats for a 11km drive with 600m vertical climb in the Alps - finished at 20% on the way up and 52.9 kw/100km and then added 4% charge on the way down and -19.9 kw/100km stats - just as well as range was getting a bit squeaky bum time! :)

Planning to do a quick write up of the trip with tips etc for anyone planning a trip to the continent - will update this with a link when i've done it!

Excellent economy there Ron. Impressive figures.
Praise well deserved I'm sure but a quiet reminder that this thread is not a competition to see who can achieve the highest economy. It's about real world consumption so I particularly welcome feedback from owners who drive their cars as the majority of all car owners do i.e. just jump in and use it without precondition.

The first picture is my average over last three months, the latter from today.

Hi Alb,

That's what I do. Drive at the speed limit, use the aircon when it's hot and the heater when it's cold. On a motorway I drive at 70 (Don't do a lot of motorway miles). My "real world" consumption was 5.2 miles per kWh.

Ron.

Hi yesterday I did a trip down south lovely warm humid day so a/c all all the way and I was very happy with the figures my 5SR did
Started off at 100% on switch on N2 default mode the Gom showed 213 miles where available switching to E1 this went to 221 all good.
So mainly M6 motorway and holding around 60-65 where I could quite a few stretches are at 50 mph due to road workings so after 2hrs stopped for toilet break and a coffee with the car showing see pictures below

Pluged into a gridserve pump for what I had intended a quick splash&dash I normally only let the car charge up to the low to mid 80% on a rapid but because we got stuck in a queue inside the services it was a bit longer than intended and went to 94% from 62 but something I have never noticed before was the car had stopped charging at 94% and the charger had turned off but no worries.

So back on the road we go getting warmer so A/C still on all the way and when we got the the end of our journey I was very please with what the car had returned as I said mainly motorway well all but about 8 miles of it carrying a fair amount of weight as well

So this is July, involved mostly motorway or Dual carriageway driving from Derby. Work trips to Darlington and North Wales. Then holiday to Northumberland including a day trip to Edinburgh. Obviously involved a lot of public charging as away from home (over £100) plus the usual hike charging. However still came in at 7p a mile.

I've done a few climbs in the Pyrenees, 2408m was the highest, 6 mountain passes in a day. I averaged 4.7 m/kw due to the low speeds. Biggest gain was 6% down a hill.

At high altitudes I was thrashing combustion cars. They have a 25% power loss at those heights.

Still averaging over 4.0 and tomorrow is my longest trip.

This was my trip yesterday, mostly 70, one long charger gap at 65 and the last 200 miles at 75.

Not bad at all.
You can see the effect of speed on range quite clearly though, with a GOM of 62 miles and 30% SOC extrapolates to about 206 which I reckon is not half bad at those speeds. :)

Add to the fact that the road was mountainous with endless up or down grades of 5-10%

75 up those grades I passed everything on wheels!

That's very good really considering the hills. I find just crossing the Pennines on the M62 puts a dent in the m/kWh

I didn't know if this was the right place to post this. But it is real world consumption of a test done in the Netherlands. I think the refresh MG 5 is doing very well there.

It matches the WLTP range, which is something not a lot of manufactures can claim.
