Hi all, I bought my 5 series a week ago, and i'm loving it. It's my first ev. The only thing I can't solve is the usb music rescanning all my files (64 gig - 5k files) every time the car is turned on. Is there a special way to structure the usb stick? (tried formatting ntfs/fat etc... no help). It plays the songs fine when the scan is done but it just takes ages to start playing each time.

I don't think I ever used that feature sorry. If worst comes to worst you could put a selection on a smaller stick so it starts faster?

Mine does the same. It also did it in my MG4.

I've found the menu system way better in the S5 - starting up the music on a USB stick in the MG4 defaulted with the entire song list starting, rather than the previous song I'd played. Moving around the menu system on the MG4 was clumsy - I think the file reading system on the S5 is an improvement.
But yes, the USB gets scanned each time you start up, but at least it remembers the previous song played.

I have a USB stick connected to the socket nearest the driver, it scans when you turn the car on, i don't use it for audio, but i have a few movies loaded on to watch while charging, it remembers the last played point everytime.

I think he means everything is in the same folder or possibly the root of the drive and not seperated into folders per artist or whatnot.

Tried that too. Folders, Root, etc... All my files are tagged. It also says there is no media on the folder and lists the supported formats but then does play the files and displays the covers correctly after scanning the whole stick. It's just weird :) My previous car just started playing from usb in a second after turning on the ignition. Android car play works fine, connects quickly from my phone, which basically has the same files on it, but I prefer to play from usb to limit the bluetooth connections. At least I can listen to my tunes but it would be nice if this worked.

Sorry if this is obvious, but you have put the USB in the right-hand usb connector, not the left hand one? I know that one of them is for charging only.......

Yes. As I said, it does play them, it just scans every file again when returning to the car, and it takes ages because i have a lot of files.
