Vanarama Issues

Just posted a negative review on trustpilot to reflect my annoyance at the situation. Might get them to do something to appease. The more people on here that take a few minutes to leave their own review on trustpilot the more likely something will change or that they will make the effort to sort things out. Any business worth their salt hate a poor TP write up as it's so widely used now. It's all well and good with the 'its out of our hands' line they keep spinning, but they could at least appear to be accommodating/receptive to creative solutions where they can..

Following my post explaining the situation in regard to the ongoing delays to MG vehicles, caused by the ongoing global supply chain issues , I’d like to give you an update.

Firstly my sincerest apologies again to all of our customers affected by these problems and for any inconvenience caused because of their vehicle being delayed .

Given the unpredictable nature of vehicle delivery times, we understand some customers will not be able to wait and want to cancel their MG order with us .

However, some of you who do want /need to cancel will have already had the home charger installed at your property. Our terms and conditions state that any customer who cancels their EV order will be liable for the cost of a home charger. The RRP for a standard install is £1050.00.

However, we don’t believe passing the full cost on to you is the right thing to do, given the circumstances.

Therefore, we have decided to only charge £350 in recognition of the inconvenienced caused (a third of the retail price) - we believe this is a fair comprise for anyone looking to cancel their order with us, and hopefully demonstrates our willingness to be fair and reasonable.

In terms of the delays and expected delivery times. I have had confirmed from our main contact at MG that is their intention to supply the vehicles at the price ordered, and that they hope to deliver the vehicles by sometime in Q4/ early Q1 2023. He was at pains to point out that this is their plan at the minute, and timescales do not take into account any other supply chain issues. Not ideal I know, but it would be foolish for him, or us, to say anything else.

The grant issue will be negated IF the vehicles are registered and delivered within 12 months of being ordered, but we are not in control of that.

We are still awaiting a decision on wether or not OZEV will change their stance and support vehicles if the delivery times goes beyond that.

For now all we can do is provide clarity on the charger situation. I hope that is helpful

Thanks for the update Andy. Within 10 mins of my TP review going live I had someone from vanarama on the phone having a proper conversation with me. Turns out the person I spoke to earlier didn't really know the full picture of what's going on . Apparently we are all soon to get calls where they will work with us to find a solution and compromise if we do/don't want to hold on for our mg.

I'll await this follow up call from their specialist mg team before I draw any conclusions but the phone call I have just received (coupled with the above response from the CEO stating a much reduced cost for the charger if we cancel) has greatly reassured me that vanarama will try to be as fair as possible.

Here's to hoping we all find a good outcome here!

That sounds promising, I have had conversations historically which suggested March/April delivery which makes it more annoying knowing others are getting their cars ordered after me. Thank you for your effort and reaching out. Awaiting call from sales team now for options

Hi Andy,

Thanks for the update.

There will be two sets of customers with regards to the Charger grant, those that had the £350 grant and those that did not.

To clarify, will those that had the £350 government grant still be required to reimburse £350 as their install would have by its nature already been £350 less than those who had theirs fitted after the end of March.

Just to add, I think it is a reasonable outcome in the circumstances whatever the response is to this question and understand a blanket £350 may well be the fairest approach in terms of treating all cancelling customers equally.

Thanks

Simple, if its too good to be true is probably is. MG and Vanarama are time wasters.

I wonder if they come and uninstall OR whether we get to keep.

I will await further instruction, but this update is appreciated

Useful update and a welcome indication that Vanarama are willing to meet customers half way.

Time to do some comparisons (Lease, PCP, Vanarama, other providers etc..) to see if its still worth waiting or whether I'd prefer to pay a little extra and get something earlier.

I was just talking to my wife about it and it’s a gamble coming out of it and joining another queue for a car. What’s to say other companies are getting them quicker and you may be waiting even longer , I see main dealers are obviously getting some quicker but the lease side of it seems to be getting left behind .

The cost of PCP isn’t wanting me to go direct to dealerships either.

I suppose having the lease option through them direct is an option but no solid indication you’ll get quicker.

Decision made for me following Andys message. Cancel....

I've already been researching 2nd hand EVs and for similar money I can pick up something, probably a Zoe which is a great car (I've been borrowing one from a mate).

I'd been looking forward to the ZS, but the experience has marred the car for me. By the time it's here they'll be releasing images of the face-lift 🤣

I'm grateful for all of you sharing your experiences also. Its kept me slightly more sanity.

To be fair, I don't necessarily think it is a case of if it looks too good to be true it probably is, I got the deal through a HotukDeals link back in November, And it wasn't the first brilliant lease deal I had ever seen on there. There had been many over the years that were just of no interest to me.
We also have to take into consideration that the deal was offered back in the day before all the cost of living crises and all the Ukraine stuff kicked off, I can appreciate that the delay is down to stuff like Ukraine as a lot of manufactures are in the same boat, But the deal at the time was just the best deal amongst a host of other deals that were around the same sort of price for the same car at the time.

just off the phone to vanerama and they’ve just confirmed this statement to me. Just need to sit and wait and see what happens, They’re getting a new quote put together with Santander who’s financing the car.
If it’s here before 11th March nothing should change . 🙄

Had called today

MG say my vehicle is delivery December/ January (Vanarama don’t really believe this) and neither do I.

If vehicle is post December, then I miss out on grant so will have to pay the £2500 (about £70 more a month on rental over 3 years)

Or can cancel and pay the £350

Do I want to pay £340ish for a lease? Not really

I cancelled my order 2 weeks ago. Still waiting for Vanarama to confirm that request has been actioned. Last call I had about 10 days ago they said my request was being “investigated”.

I'm considering sitting in another queue for a car at the same time as the mg. Call it (generously) 50/50 that mg actually meet their target of Dec/jan delivery to vanarama. If so, great I don't pay anymore per month as the grant isn't lost and keep my great price and I cancel my other queued order elsewhere for another car. If they don't, I cancel the mg order in Jan when it gets delayed again and continue in my new queue for alternative vehicle. Just got to make sure you go with a broker who a) don't charge an admin fee at point of order so you don't lose any money by entering queue. And b) you can withdraw from at any point without incurring costs. I have my eye on a niro EV which another broker expects stock on at end of year. Vanarama couldn't price match it as it's factory order and they don't have discount from bulk orders prev being placed. Also got to be careful if you do this that the credit company they use on your second queued order isn't the same as the mg otherwise to the credit company you will max out on your credit line on their file and likely be turned down for it.

At last some positive news re Vanarama! Having cancelled my order, (November 2021. ZS Trophy LR White), two weeks ago, I have been awaiting a response from them.
I have just received a call from them, (apparently they have a team making these calls), agreeing to cancel the order and offering me a settlement of £350 in lieu of the charge point which was installed last March. The £350 could be paid in one payment, (which I have done over the phone), or in 6 interest free monthly payments.
As I would have paid anything up to £1000 for a charger to be installed had I arranged it myself I thought this was a very fair offer and I think Vanarama are to be congratulated on being big enough to offer customers a fair way out of the mess they are in with these orders.
As I've said on other threads, when I was informed that my order was unlikely to arrive until possibly April next year I contacted my local MG dealership who happened to have a cancelled MG5 Exclusive in their showroom which I am now happily driving.
All's well that ends well and I hope everyone else either receives the car they ordered without too much further delay or will now feel more able to cancel and find an alternative source as I did.
