What do you value most in your EV?

I'm with the other fogies here, I find it easier to get in and out of an SUV than a lower saloon/estate. They both have their merits and the MG5 estate is a perfect Taxi, family runabout and work vehicle. A commercial van version would also see a sure market.

I asked this question on the most recent Podcast, but I thought I'd open it up here for more general discussion.

If the ZS EV and the MG5 had the same range (say 250 miles), and if they both had the same technology (MG Pilot, roof loads, panoramic roof etc), and if they both cost exactly the same, which one would you choose?

I'm wondering if the Crossover or Estate format is what swings it for you, or whether it was due to the availability of features on the MG ZS that swung it one way, or the extra range of the MG5 which swung it the other way.

I would always opt for the SUV / Crossover type car as it is much easier to get in and out if you have back issues Like me. I also have a Seat Leon and over the past couple of weeks I Once again had issues with sciatica due to having a compressed disc in my back. With a bit of difficulty I could get into the ZS where as the Leon was a complete no go area, I simply could not get down that low to get into it.

Looks like there's definitely room for an Estate and a Crossover within the MG brand - they don't necessarily poach sales off each other.

Will be interesting to see if anyone switches teams once the upgraded battery versions are launched in the near future?

What is your best "Guess" at a release date for the larger battery model in the ZS ???.
Are you thinking 64 kw or even a little larger ?.
A real world range of 250 miles be fantastic.

This fact maybe true, but we have to bare in mind that there are still younger people who have mobility issues, that can limit their choice of certain models types.
The crossover / SUV has now taken over from the family hatchback recently.
Even a couple with a young family, can see the benefits of loading small children and their prams etc into a car with a higher ground clearance.
There is NO joy lifting a two year old child into the back seat of a car and trying to fasten the child seat restraint while suffering from a bad back !.
A two door car is WHOLE new world of pain.

I'm guessing that will all depend on the premium to upgrade. If new prices start matching the opposition e.g. eNiro, at least for the ZS that will muddy the waters. The 5 currently doesn't have any direct competition so a little less confusion there.
For the same price would people unfamiliar with the brand choose MG over Kia or Hyundai, Skoda, Nissan etc ?
Or is the MG going to maintain it's price sector ?

Best guess for ZS facelift would be Q4 2021. Expect a choice of 2 battery sizes, as per Niro, albeit with increased capacities. I'm led to believe it will be 50/70kWh. ?

I would imagine there will be a number of design changes both inside and outside to update the model. We will have to wait and see!

The body changes will probably follow the ICE face lift and I believe the dash dials will be digital.

I have an MG5 Excite and love it - I had the opportunity to drive around in a ZS for a few weeks and would admit that it was comfy to drive but I have found that it is much easier to get high efficiency driving out of the MG5 (about 4.5+ in this warm weather - smaller cross-section through the air?). The MG5 Excite interferes less with your driving when on cruise control and uses regen when the ZS doesn't. If the ZS was brought up to MG5 specs on the drive-train and visa versa for the cabin comforts, it would make deciding between them more difficult. The MG5 also seems to be less conspicuous as an EV - I would still chose the MG5, but the vote would be soo close.

That is the major question- with an increased range the price will go up.

I'd pay £30-35k for a ZS with a 73kWh battery, as long as there were some good dealer or MG offers.
