Would you buy an MG 4 again?

Proving the point that all manufacturers have bad cars etc!

I’ve noticed a couple of people rejecting their Borns on the Cupra forum.
What’s interesting is what they’re rejecting for.
Basically issues with buggy software on earlier models that don’t have the latest version.
Stuff that I see MG owners putting up with in here on a daily basis.
Certainly nothing like oil leaks, restricted speed, horrible lane keep etc
In comparison I feel like telling them to get a grip, but maybe they’re right.

Interesting, but likely they are right because the price point is northwards of the MG's and the expectation therefore should be higher. However MG owners have more than enough to suffer and are finding the customer service an absolute disgrace.
How does the customer service feel with Cupra ?

IMO nothing much is going to happen while the car is on your drive.
I forced my rejection along by returning the car + keys + V5 to the dealer and making them sign for it, then sending the signed document to the finance company.
My rejection only took a week or two to be agreed ( an emailed letter from MG finance agreeing my rejection was valid) then about another 6 weeks for all the money to be refunded.
The car is undriveable as there is literally no oil left in it.I have asked them to collect it last week but still waiting on a response.engineer report was done 2 weeks ago they said if I drive it it will effect the rejection claim. So stuck between a rock and a hard place waiting. Solicitors are being instructed next week to get it moving along

Hi All, apologies in advance for the long post.

This is a difficult question to answer for me as with most people the driving side of the car is fine except for the preflight setup disabling the LKA and Speed Camera recognition as both are next to useless. We have a Trophy on PCP which we picked up in mid December.

Most of the issues are generally all seem to be around the centre console as the issues are as follows, my gut feeling is the 12v fault maybe also down to the centre console maybe a loose wire drawing current ;-

1. Three times the 12v battery has failed we called AA on the first occasion and bought a 12v booster to keep in the glovebox after that, which has been invaluable as we resolved the others ourselves but took photos of the battery voltage for the dealer The readings where 0.025v on one occasion and 4.66v on the other, the AA had 3v on the first visit.
2. ‘USB disk identification failure’ message.
3. Radio stopped working, (Item 2 and 3 temporarily resolve themselves when the battery dies say for a week or so)
4. Bluetooth is awful occasionally connects but does not remember the phone and either does not pick it up or wants to pair when you are driving. So if on a trip for work need to forget the old setting and redo again from the start before I leave as more preflight setup.
5. Wireless charging comes up with message that there are other objects in the area when there is only the phone and it stops charging.
6. One of our keys does not have an emergency key which only came to light due to item 1 and our dealer said we had both when we picked up the car which we could not have as we only went to use them when the battery died and they now they want us to pay for another one.

As a side issue we have had a few times when the App has not worked which is annoying but not a deal breaker the most annoying is when you send an address to the car for the satnav it does not receive it.

The car has been in the garage for a total on 13 work days so far 2 x 2 day visits with one for the recall update. The latest was over a total of 9 days firstly 4 workdays as needed it for the weekend so had to pick it up and then return on the Monday, they said the Bluetooth and USB errors had been resolved but informed them on Monday they had not. I left them with the car for another 5 days and picked up on Friday without any of the faults resolved. They have now been told that MG has told them they need to load some software on a USB stick anthey need to get a USB stick before they can do this. They also stated that due to MG being in China it takes a while to get an answer back to any issues due to the time difference. They have said they are unable to do anything about the issue with the 12v battery as it has not done it when in their workshop and they have told me to call out the AA when it happens again and get them to drop off at the dealer.

I have told them to contact me when they have the USB stick to load the software and will keep ringing them to remind them as can’t afford to leave the car with them for an extended period anymore.

The dealer will not provide a loan car as they have said they do not have anything available as they are booked out weeks in advance which is extremely disappointing with a car that is only just over 6 months old.

The items listed should be solvable by the manufacturer and the lack of progress on these are infuriating as I can’t keep leaving the car with them as we only have the one car in the family and are having to work around them as do not want them to use me as an excuse as not being able to resolve.

If they solve the issues I would heartily recommend the car but at the moment I would not want to put someone else through the aggravation as we seem to be beta testing their software and build quality, the dealers also need to step up and take ownership of the problem and not just pass the buck to China.
I find it hard to believe that nobody at the dealership owns a USB stick,
You can get a Kingston Datatraveller 128GB for £4.99 on amazon, just buy one and hand it to them, No more excuses just fix the thing or you will reject the car.

@Miles Roberts CG - Please pick up all these issue you see here and feedback into MG for us. The level of customer care we are all experiencing appears to a real issue, which will inevitably effect MG's reputation and ongoing sales if not addressed.

There’s really not much difference in price between the born and a trophy.
And even if it’s ‘only’ a £24k SE, it’s still a bloody lot of money, it’s baffling that people are putting up with stuff.

Customer service with Cupra?
The only experience I’ve had was an update to stop certain settings like climate and ambient interior light colour choice being forgotten between drives.
By way of apology I got a hamper of food and drink from Cupra (not the dealer, Cupra direct)
So…so far I’d rate the customer service as ‘significantly better’….

I would buy another MG4 (preferably the twin motor version next time). I enjoy driving and i love the way the MG4 drives more than anything. I did not choose to reject my car because the camera behind the rear view mirror was faulty from day one (still not fixed six months later, but booked in next week) because there were no other issues wrong with the car e.g. transmission oil leaks and undertray bulges.

I am already happy with the (imperfect) car, so when the car is finally fixed i will be ecstatic with excitement!!

Hmmm. I assumed the data stick isn't one you can just buy. I assumed it was a special one from MG China with specific data on it, surely they're not that stupid? 🤔

I paid cash for my MG4 SE Long Range last September!

I consider myself responsible for every decision I make.

Would I buy again.

100% sure I would.

Have had no problems whatsoever.

Support from MG has been 100% (OK, I never needed to contact them, or the dealer who sold me the device)

Cor blimey! Which dealer was that?
(Not tested our dealer yet by the way 🙂)

My rejection is still going on 2 months it’s been sat on my driveway for still leaking oil.engineer visit came last week to inspect independent from finance company how long did your rejection take I’m looking at involving solicitors next i have had to buy a new car and still pay for this mg4 in total from 7 months ownership it’s been off road for 4 months.just hope it hurry’s along as running 3 cars is becoming costly.

How long has your rejection process been going on for mine is now total 9 weeks.I have had independent engineer report for oil leak loss power head unit failure etc last I heard from finance last week was it’s with management my next step is solicitors in claims court
Two weeks so far. Finance are saying MG are contesting all rejections. They have my car and keys so I might just take the private plate off and get the new v5 then get them to sign for it. I still ha e the courtesy car so they will have to come collect that.

I got to be on first name terms with my case handler at MG finance (shout out to M…), she says the sheer number of rejections they were getting was becoming an issue.
So while they may be trying to contest a bit more, they literally can’t deny rejection where it’s valid.

I still say it's pot luck whether you get a good dealer or not no matter what make of car. E.g. I will NEVER buy a merc as I was snubbed many years ago by them. Grrr! ( but I'm not bitter)

y
In a thread where a guy is asking for advice about rejecting, is there really any point or need for posts telling the world your car doesn’t have any issues?
Really..?
yes!

Thread title is “Would you buy an MG4 again?” so pointing out both sides is appropriate, IMHO..
exactly!

Picked up mine in April, and apart from the software niggles, I've not had any of the issues you described.

My top software fixes.

1. Infotainment system should remember last source setting. My car decides that I must have the radio intermittently, despite, me selecting USB2 or Android.

2. The vent setting reverts to recirculate anytime the climate control is on. I must go into the main menu into the ventilation control and push the button to change the setting for air flow.

3. Ability to assign a key to toggle thru the drive modes eco, normal, custom, snow etc.
Al I missing something? For #3 the default setup to toggle through these is the left * on the steering wheel.
