Bizarrely, it cost hardly anything for me to keep my MG6 and add the XPower as an additional vehicle to a multi-car policy than to do it as a replacement. Will get a true comparison when it all comes up for renewal in July.

Just use a comparison site @wilkywilko44, it seems to be the modern way, and also the way I do it. Everybody's insurance quote will be different, but just as a quick comparison, mine is £420 through Swinton.

I had a look before I ordered mine. My current one Churchill won’t insure it annoyingly but had a go on Compare the market and plenty will. Admiral came up cheapest for me but have to go for the 3rd cheapest as one didn’t offer windscreen cover and another wanted to fit a black box!!

Unbelievably, I am already having to look for car insurance.

I've had the car very nearly 12 months and just received the reminder today telling me they aren't renewing my policy!!!

I paid £598 last year with Hastings Direct.

It was a 'distress' purchase, as I was sat on the dealer forecourt struggling to find anyone who had heard of the X Power, let alone get insured on one!

So one year on, I am forced to shop around.

Pleasantly surprised as it happens.

Bought from Budget on confused.com for £376

I’m with Privilige, started policy with a 1yo ZS 1.5, then changed to the 5SE. They won’t cover the XPower! Got to cancel and reinsure the XP which makes a big hole in my budget, not paying DD anymore as they charge extortionate APR for doing so

Just had to cancel with Churchill and switch to Aviva as Churchill wouldn’t cover my XPower. In fairness to them there is a £59 cancellation fee but they waved it without me even asking as it was because they wouldn’t cover my new car.

I’ll put that to Privilege then, they’ve been an absolute pain this last year anyway, and their APR was eyewatering - well over 50%. Best deal so far (excluded some bizarre names thrown up on comparison sites) is with the Post Office, £479, 57yo, out of town address, 8000 miles, full ncb/clean licence, fault acc 5 yrs ago. Wife’s Aygo was £160 with them. Seems dear but the 5 was about £300 so can’t grumble.

Mine wasn’t particularly cheap. The SE was £440. It jumped to nearly £700 with Aviva which is how I ended up with Churchill! It’s kinda ironic I’ve ended up back with Aviva!

Yep, car insurance is like that, no rhyme nor reason to it at all. Just made up, as they go along.

I think some insurers are starting to specialise in EVs and the bargain basement ones are jumping ship or at least the ones owned by UK Insurance Ltd. (Direct Line, Churchill, Privilege, Green Flag)

Car Insurance companies have been more than happy to fleece us, over the years. But now coz something a bit different, as in EVs are becoming really popular. There thinking, hang on a minute, these EVs are possibly gonna cost us more money. So they jump ship, greedy bastards. Massive insurance companies not willing to insure EVs is ridiculous. I know, I know your gonna say, but they are a business and they are out to make, money. Can't argue with that.
But they are still arseholes. IMHO.

LV wouldn’t touch it either, Geoffrey (whoever came up with that name?) are the cheapest though have dire reviews. However the quotes with windscreen cover were all £460+. I had a fault prang 15/7/20 so still have to declare that, otherwise only claimed windscreens over the last 40 years. I’ve not got a reg number yet so can’t actually buy insurance. I’m with Adrian Flux for my Sprinter RV so might try them, but they are phone only.

To be honest, I just go for the cheapest insurance quote, wether they've got dire reviews or not. Me personally car insurance is just something you have to have to be legal.

Ive had to buy car insurance last week, the first time since 1998. Since then I've had a company car. I'm 61, 6 years NCB no points and consider myself low risk but the cheapest quote fully comp on MG4 Trophy was about £500 Hastings Direct with a black box. My daughter who is a learner has this type of policy.

I went with Admiral in the end to get windscreen cover and protected NCD so am playing about £650.

I know I'm totally out of touch but on the basis of my quote for the Trophy I'm curious how much people are paying for the
X Power.
