MG4 doesn't save driving mode!?

Am I correct in thinking you can now set your drive modes to one of the star buttons?
yes you can. I have done that and it solved that problem fairly well. It's no great hardship to just press that when you need it, rather than mucking about with the screen and crashing.

But I'd much rather they solved the problem properly and let you save all your settings in a profile.

I have had my Trophy a couple of days now and also find the constant re-setting of things annoying. More annoying than it forgetting the driving mode is that it keeps switching lane keeping on! This is a horrible feature! I've never had this on any car before and it feels like someone else is tugging on the steering wheel when you're driving! Having to remember to switch it off every time I get in the car is an irritation. They really need to enable users to save their chosen settings.

Fingers crossed!
Hello Stuart, this LKA is a menace, I waved an ambulance through a week or so ago, I crept into the bus lane to my left and as the ambo was passing, the LKA tried to pull me back into the path of the passing ambo. The ambo crew must think me a proper idiot having waved them through only to twitch into their path. Scared the carp out of me!

I know it's only been four weeks since the last update to this thread, but is there any development on this?

When you say you can set driving modes to the star buttons, how does that work when driving. Do you set drive mode on the left, and toggle between the options, and regen on the right, and toggle between the options?

Presumably, you need to use the screen to set LKA to off every time.

I'm awaiting delivery of a Trophy, and curious about the setting saving. That said, I think I could probably get used to doing it each time I get in. But, if you have to do a bunch of stops and starts on a given day, I can see how it could get tedious.

Annoyingly, I experience that selected drive modes and regen are reset after every trip.
The left 'star' button can be set to 'Drive Mode' or 'Regen'. The right 'Star' button AC or SRC only. So when driving you can only change drive mode or regen with the left button, not both via star buttons.

My car is on R33 and is in tomorrow for some work and i'm hoping an update too which 'may' solve this. As you are receiving a new car, you should have the latest software too.... so here's hoping !

Yep, you need to turn off LKA every time. It's the only major annoyance on this otherwise lovely car.

I don't buy their excuse that it has to be on by default for safety reasons;

1) most cars don't have it at all, so how essential is it to safety?

2) it's manifestly less safe when switched on as it tugs the steering wheel all over the place, wrestles control from the driver and is really quite alarming!

I agree with the sentiment, however MG have applied it for NACAP safety rating purposes.

... or months, or years. Profiles are unlikely to ever come to the MG4 - certainly not current versions.

The LKA on my SE only activates when I get above 40mph and then deactivates when I drop below 35mph? Does it operate differently on a Trophy?

I’m told by a traffic police officer if it’s for safety purposes, you cannot turn it off

Do you know, I’m really not sure, I was in a 40mm h road when it happened. I’ll have to investigate.

That's sort of technically true, e.g. you cannot turn anti-lock brakes and airbags off.

The relevant term is driver assistance systems, which you can turn off, but NCAP want on by default as the car does not know who will drive it next and each driver shouldn't be surprised by an assistance system not working. Unhelpfully NCAP's rating includes such systems and their defaults and so it implies that the car is less safe without these systems on.

Edit: there's been a debate about traction control and whether it is a safety system (and so should always be on) or driver assistance (can be turned off, as in most cars today). There is pressure to reclassify it as a safety system.

oh yes, and ..

3) turning it off while driving involves several clicks while looking at a screen instead of looking at the road. Safety much?!

In my experience a lot of new cars do have it, and these have the same setup - i.e. LKA is on at every startup. Have a look at other car forums where the same complaint has been debated. With the Golf Mk 8 (which also has LKA turned on at every startup) there is now a way of it memorising the last setting between startups, but you need to code this yourself using OBDEleven or VCDS (i.e. change the factory default settings).

Nanny state rules OK! This is so irritating for people that can actually drive, can maintain concentration on one thing for extended periods and enjoy the driving experience. I think I might have to develop an interest in 1970’s vehicles. No safety systems on them!

Ooooh! Anyone know if this works with MG4s? I’m happy to play with this if I can have my car, my way and not be dictated to by NCAP, MG or the government. I’m such a rebel! 🤣

I'm not aware of anything that supports MG4s that can do this yet, but with increasing sales, it will come.

Will it though?
Does it require a certain amount of access to the software from the manufacturer?
Along the lines of intelligent Octopus, which we know MG aren’t helping with?
