Lane Keep Assist feature

Trophy delivered on 1st March and the LKA is so dangerous. There has been multiple occasions where the car has initiated a random swerve right or left. When the conditions are poor … that’s when it really goes bad.

Car is booked in with dealership start of April for a list of issues.
It needs the relevant module updates. With them, LKA is merely annoying, not dangerous.

Our car went in for some work a couple of weeks ago and, presumably, got updated software applied. I've had it out a number of times now on both short and long journeys and the LKA seems to be much more lax than it was previously. When we first got the car back in September - it was constantly trying to murder me but now it only kicked in when I was legitimately straying over the lines and when I was driving normally it didn't seem to bother me at all.

There now seems to be sensitivity options on the LKA, as well as a number of other features (such as the driver alert assist - which also isn't bothering us constantly any more) that certainly weren't there previously:

I have the SR version (again from Sept.), but have slightly different options. Thankfully on mine as soon as I put it into 'gear' (actually is as soon as i hit the brake peddle), the lane keep assist button turns off - just how i want it.

That might be perception or different behaviour. Mine does tug at the wheel and beep but nothing I can't resist easily.
Basically as it's supposed to do, hopefully they it get an update that works for all models and makes it behave safely.
I'm sure it will come, let them concentrate on the oil leak first, one thing at a time 😉

I’m eager to see if there is an update for Lane Kamikaze assist. My trophy was delivered 1st March with what looks like latest software. Sensitivity for LKA is on low… we will wait and see! It also seems really inconsistent of when it recognises road markings / end of road.

I had LKA in a MB e class and that was actually proactive and safe lol

I can resist the tugging however the point is that nothing should be tugging at the wheel unless it's a last resort to prevent a crash. As an example last week I was driving down a straight single track lane near me and had forgotten to disable LKA. For absolutely no reason it suddenly decided that I was out of lane and tried to steer the car into the bank at the side of the road! Luckily I had a good grip on the wheel so corrected however if I hadn't it would have been a crash. Point is that if I had a passenger who reached over and grabbed the wheel like that I'd stop and tell them to get out, to have a 'safety' system doing that is simply unacceptable.

If it's no better when I get it back I will be reporting it to the DVLA as well.

I believe it is designed to tug at the wheel, other makes do the same. Granted the MG system seems easily confused and could be better at detecting the lanes.

Edit: I turn it off for country lanes (and we have a lot around here). I suppose the design assumes everyone keeps two hands on the wheel at all times, I can see how it would be difficult or even dangerous if it struck at the wrong moment.

I suspect that they use a bulk calibration for the ADAS system (on the production line), which is not quite compatible with the alignment of the windscreen glass, which is what it looks through to steer - hence why we may appear to have slightly different experiences? - either way its not exactly reassuring.

.... or maybe they used ChatGPT to design the system

Really strange that I seem to be getting different results than most - took the car at the weekend on a 40-mile or so round trip and it only activated once or twice when I was legitimately straying out of lane for whatever reason and didnt bother me at all for the rest of the trip. I leave all of the settings on whatever defaults they're at when starting the car (as above on the images).

Is there a screen menu selection before to get to this ? i.e MG Pilot and then xyz to get to that first screen you show ?

All I did yesterday was tap - off to disable Lane Assist - So what your saying is 'in principal' there is more below that I should see ? - Will check later

Yeah thats just the main MG Pilot menu there, nothing additional to go into. Sounds like you're on an older software.

Ok peeps - Lunchtime explore..

This is what I found on mine

IF YOU TURN OFF The Drive Assist System - It then gave me options 'below' the Lane keeping Assist tab.

I set them to how I would like - THEN TURNED BACK ON the Drive Assist System, and the Lane Keeping options Showed & had stayed as I set them

Turned car off - As in got out - Locked it - waited.. Yes .. Then unlocked and got in - waited for car to start ...

Then checked - All was how I left it pre turning off ..

Fingers crossed as they say ...
