What depth of water can an Electric Car MG go through?

I was told the main battery has the same specifications as a submarine as regards protection against water ingress. There is also a famous clip of a Tesla driving through water over its front bonnet in a submerged underpass passing other nearby stranded ICE cars.

    Off peak charging cost

I invested £3K which should generate 5,000 kWh about half of my energy use. They say that should give me a savings rate of 6.40p/kWh or £327 in the first year. Kirk Hill has been delayed a month so should see a return starting from next January. Also have solar panels and home battery which...

    MG5 Front Collision Avoidance

I am very grateful to ACC. Yesterday, on a dual carriageway a car in front stopped suddenly (looks like it had missed a turning) I was looking at console at the time and my brakes came on a second before I saw the hazard and a collision was avoided. It was the first time in 18mths ownership...

Bit of reassurance for the MG5

I have had my MG5 for a year now and what I do like about it in this cold weather is to put defroster and heated seats on 5 minutes before use and you get into a warm and derosted car, no need to scrape off the ice!

    Updated Octopus Go Charging Costs

My "new" 7.5p rate kicked in a few weeks ago. Haven't been using the car since then as had Covid :(

    Updated Octopus Go Charging Costs

Topped up my MG5 last night with the 7.5p/kWh new rate. Put in 26.9kWh at a cost of £2 which is 65p more than the old rate, but still a saving on petrol/diesel equivalent.

    Electric Miles app

Has anyone used the Electric Miles app? I've just downloaded it and can't see any benefits to the Project-EV app I had with my charger: Dear Project EV Customer, Thank you for your continued support as a Project EV customer. Energy costs are rising so to help you better manage your EV...

    EV Repairs

Front windscreen fitted today by National Windscreens. Fitter said shouldn't need to get the camera re-calibrated, that was just a money making scam! Will wait until its first service. Great & efficient service by National Windscreens, repaired within the hour. He gets an average of 6...

    Cracked front window replacement

Driving up the M5 yesterday in a heavy shower I was overtaken by a big truck and heard a large cracking sound as it passed. Now have a 12" crack leading off from the edge of the window. Insurance have arranged for National Windscreens to come out and replace, but can they refit the window...

    Use of Zap Map

I don't understand why so many public chargers have problems. I guess it is due to connectivity problems rather than electrical supply. The system needs to 99% reliable countrywide.

    Use of Zap Map

Took my first long range journey away from home this week. Most of my trips since buying the car have been within the max range, so I have always been able to return home to charge back up. Recent journey to Watlington, Oxford meant had to use a rapid charger for the first time. Pulled into...

Anyone noticed now getting extended range?

Having charged the MG5 to 100% last night I noticed this morning that the range was now showing as 247miles. I guess this is because of warmer weather helping extend battery life. A month ago I could only get max range of 203 miles on a fully charged battery. David

Home Charge Point - Project Ev

I tried charging on a sunny day at midday when the panels were outputting 3kWp but it still took power from the grid.

Home Charge Point - Project Ev

I've had a Project-EV charger for 6 months and it all seems to be working ok on the Octopus Go 12.30h - 4.30h 5p tariff. However, I have had little success on running it successfully on the Solar or Solar+ option during daytime. It seems to start of ok drawing a few kWp from the pvs but soon...

    Off peak charging cost

Another option which I have just taken up today is to buy a share in Ripple Energy. Have just bought a 4265kWh share in a new wind farm being built in Ayrshire. Only problem is it's still a green field site but will start paying in Dec 2023.
