charging

A charging station, also called an EV charger or electric vehicle supply equipment (EVSE), is a piece of equipment that supplies electrical power for charging plug-in electric vehicles (including hybrids, neighborhood electric vehicles, trucks, buses, and others).
Although batteries can only be charged with DC power, most electric vehicles have an onboard AC-to-DC converter that allows them to be plugged into a standard household AC electrical receptacle. Inexpensive low-power public charging stations will also provide AC power, known as "AC charging stations". To facilitate higher power charging, which requires much larger AC-to-DC converters, the converter is built into the charging station instead of the vehicle, and the station supplies already-converted DC power directly to the vehicle, bypassing the vehicle's onboard converter. These are known as "DC charging stations". Most fully electric car models can accept both AC and DC power.
Charging stations provide connectors that conform to a variety of standards. DC charging stations are commonly equipped with multiple connectors to be able to supply a wide variety of vehicles.
Public charging stations are typically found street-side or at retail shopping centers, government facilities, and other parking areas.

    Charging Sleep Mode?

I'm having a bit of an issue working out scheduled charging with my Project EV charger. If I schedule the Project EV for a short time in the future (say 10 mins) everything works as I expect but it's not kicking in overnight for some reason. I'm doing everything the same except the car is left...

    AC Charging Speed

I plugged my Trophy into the work 22kW wall box this morning, I was expecting it to be limited to 7.4kW but was pleasantly surprised at the 9.74kW it charged at. Makes for a shorter charge when you're getting your juice at 2kW per hour quicker!

    Understanding smart / dumb charging

Hi, Just want to clarify whether I have got this right and maybe help others new to home charging. 1. Rapid (>22kW) CCS chargers know the car’s state of charge because that is part of the CCS protocol, which is why you can see the car’s charge percentage on the charger. 2. Fast (7-22kW) Type...

No incentive for off-peak charging - daytime burden on grid

Could the electricity grid be overly burdened as Electric Vehicle (EV) owners switch to daytime charging (which is more convenient when you get in from work at 6pm for example) because dual rate EV tariffs have largely been dropped by the utility providers for new contracts or renewals? Most...

    Slow (AC) charging speeds

Looking at the MG4 EV manual, the SR supports 6.6kW AC charging and the LR support 11kW. That is if I have read it right and if it is correct! Can anyone confirm this yet?

I have had the car a month now and cannot figure out how to charge! I have a Ohme charging box installed. I use the MG app to schedule charging but it’s very hit and miss. Sometimes it charges to 80% overnight as scheduled but other times, like last night it started at 32% at 8pm and by this...

Chosing the right charging app (with examples)

Yes, I know that I've harped on about this this subject for some time, but as we are planning a trip through Spain and down to the Algarve leaving this weekend it's popped back into the forefront of my mind. Charging at above 50kW

I have just completed a 3 week tour of the British mainland, encompassing the North Coast 500, Orkney, Cotswolds and Southern England. BY and large I encountered no problems, except at Braintree (Gridserve) and the BP charging hub on the M6 park and ride near Lancaster. On both these 150kW...

So has anyone managed to rapid charge a MG4 yet and if so what was the maximum speed of the charger, SoC and actual charge speed achieved? Had you used that rapid to charge a different EV and if so how did the MG4 rate compare? Ideally testing would be on a 150kW+ charger but interested if...
