This week I have upgraded my MG4 to the MGS5 but I'm having issues getting the car to charge.
I have a ZAPPI charger and am using Octopus Intelligent GO.

When i plug the car in, the zappi says "waiting for surpless" and is on the eco+ setting. The Octopus app sets up a shedule as it should but when the time comes nothing happens. The zappi still says waiting for surpless and has a pink light.

I have noticed that when i connect the charger to the car there is a message on the dash that says connecting and i dont see a connected sign at all so not sure if this has anything to do with it.

Please help! this is driving me insane! I am a driving instructor and really need this to work

It might be that the car is hibernating by the time the charging is due to start (and doesn't wake up). Can you use the car's scheduling instead of the Zappi's ?

Someone has said that the mgs5 is not compatible with octopus intelligent go so have to use the zappi. Not sure how accurate that is

Try switching the zappi onto either Eco mode or Fast mode.
Eco plus mode is designed to only use excess solar input, on a solar setup the current clamp is on the solar input side of the inverter and only when there is excess power coming in from solar panels will it switch on and charge the car.
Go into your settings on the Zappi and change the default setting to either Fast or Eco mode .
good luck
Pete

It was on fast before and seemed to charge immediately upon plugging it in. Others said I had to have it on eco+ for me to be able to use octopus intelligent go. Is that correct?

No MGs are compatible with IOG, they would need to share their APIs for that to happen and MG don't want to.
You need a compatible charger to have IOG with MG which a zappi, ohme and a couple of others are

Ohme ePod. I just add the additional percentage charge I need on the Ohme app. I don't touch the car settings at all unless it's to change the charge limit between 80% to 100%.
That explains it. It's your charger that's compatible with Octopus Intelligent Go because as @LenEV2016 pointed out MG haven't released their API for Octopus to control the car's charging.

I have an S5 here which uses the Zappi charger to access IOG - works fine. Does the car accept a charge at all?

The charger needs to be linked as the car is not IOG compatible.

If you need a charge then you should be able to switch off IOG in the Octopus app and then use the car schedule to get a charge overnight. However, if you do this without using smart charging at all, then you will eventually be moved off of IOG onto Octopus Go.

A lot of misinformation in this thread.

I also have a Zappi and charge my MGS5 using Octopus Intelligent Go, and I’ve never had a problem.

MGs are not directly compatible with IOG (neither was my old Hyundai), but the Zappi is, so the car doesn’t matter.

You need to have the Zappi set in Eco+ mode, as it’s the only mode that works with IOG.

Make sure all scheduling is turned off on both the Zappi and the car.

The IOG scheduling is dynamic and although they allocate you charge slots pretty soon after plugging in, they do change frequently. If you refresh your Octopus app after 30 minutes, you may see that your original start time has moved. Possibly this is why your charge isn’t starting when expected.

Also, due to some regulation, the first charge slot is subject to a random delay of up to 10 minutes, so if you do get a first slot time of 21:00, the actual charging may not start until 21:10.

If this is the case, you will see in the MyEnergi app that the Zappi has an hourglass beside it if this is the case. The subsequent slots don’t need this delay. There’s a thread on the MyEnergi forum about this.

Bit of a long shot, sorry if it's too obvious but is the MG app set up for the same % charge as the Octopus app. Today I had a charging issue and found that the MG app which had been on 100% charge last night and worked ok had today reset itself to 60% so I couldn't charge past that until I found it had changed.
