Hi, my MG4 has been working mostly fine for the last year, until today when it decided to stop locking and locking using the door handle buttons on outside. This happens with both keys and on both sides of the car. The boot still opens when fob is nearby though! Any ideas? I can use the key to lock unlock but that's annoying after using this method ever since I had the car. Rebooting the infotainment and locking unlocking with key didn't fix it. Hoping there is an easy fix without involving dealership?

Edit: after leaving it overnight (about 14hours) next morning worked fine again.

Will monitor and post back if reoccurs.

Worth trying a 12V battery reboot, I guess?
I heard this fixes lots of niggles but never done it and heard it can cause other random errors? Might let dealer do this instead rather than blaming me for anything lol

I'd try a warranty claim
Yeah I know that will most likely be the solution, just always takes ages to book and they often don't know fix or have to wait for China to authorise an upgrade etc.. which took 3 weeks on my last issue lol

Mine's done it a couple of times on the drivers door, I didn't try the other door at the time, but it started working again the next day.

Brilliant, thats what i was hoping. Fingers crossed then, I'll see how it is tomorrow.

My drivers door did it once. A good hosing out with WD40 sorted it. Been fine ever since.

Or contact cleaner maybe ?
contact cleaner.webp

Spray the button on the handle? Strange it's both sides though.. but could be worth a shot

I've had both door buttons(handle?) changed under warranty. I think there's been a few on here have had one or both done.

Well it seems the person who proposed leaving it till the next day was right lol.. all working again this morning after leaving it for about 14hours overnight.

Maybe something reset itself? But if it reoccurs I'll try the contact cleaner or fuse before booking it in.

I initially thought mine was developing the broken button fault reported on here by a few members. Until it started working the next day. Then because it worked faultlessly for quite a while until the second time and has worked faultlessly since (about 8 months) I assume it's just one of those software glitches, that occasionally pop up and right themselves, built in to the character of the car.

I had the same mishap: I couldn't open the driver's and passenger doors using the door handle buttons. The trunk opened fine, so I was able to put my shopping in it.
So I unlocked the car using iSmart/my smartphone to get home (the remote control worked fine to start the car).
Once in my garage, I locked the car using my remote control to turn off my daytime running lights, and once again, I couldn't open the doors or trunk.
I decided to cut the 12V power to reboot the control/command system, but this had no immediate effect.
Two hours later, it was working again.
I just discovered this post and my conclusion is the same as @Kithmo : software bug (and nothing to do with remote controls or dead batteries).

I had button failure on passenger door of all ones. Symptom was more that the button no longer clicked at all rather than clicking and not working. I’d lay a few £ that underneath the plastic is a micro switch, the same as a cheap mouse. It was replaced under warranty with a completely new handle with a perfect colour match - without them having seen the car until fitting fyi.
