So - we were going from our house to Lincolnshire today so last night I plugged the car in to charge. The charger kept failing showing “ error”. I assumed it was my charger and decided to charge on the road.
So we left home and I stopped at a fast charger only to find the car would not charge. To cut a long story short, the AA couldn’t sort it so we had to get the car home before the charge ran out. Car sitting on the drive and hopefully will be recovered tomorrow. Happy new year all !

Sorry to hear that Don - just as an off the wall suggestion, have you tried sitting in the drivers seat, foot on the brake and then pressing in both the steering wheel buttons/scroll wheels until the system reboots? Then exit, plug car in, then lock and see if that makes any difference and if it starts charging?
Only grasping at straws for you, but was thinking what would I try if I was in your situation? 🤷‍♂️

Sorry to hear that. Had you tried DC Rapid charging previously?

Hi all so..
Tried both wheels on steering wheel - reboot no change.

Yes have charges on DC before without issue.

AA could not find the problem, his laptop had not got diagnostic for im6.
AA disconnected the battery to ensure full reset/ no change. The car for some reason will not allow charging.

I will be back home tomorrow afternoon and will speak to local MG dealership. AA have said that if they can’t fix on the day I should ring them and they will arrange a car during the time off Road.
I’ll keep you all informed on progress.

Clearly a case of needing to read out the fault codes. To get that properly done there is probably a need for a MG dealer to read out, as most people will not have the equipment needed to pull out useful information on your new car. Sounds like it is needed sooner than later.

Sorry to hear this Don...
The fact that both DC and AC charges failed points to an issue with the BMS or the DC AC converter.
Hopefully it will get sorted quickly.

It could just be a software glitch. There were a lot of updates for the MG4 on charging to properly handle the different charging networks over here, maybe we have some of the same issues for the IMs?

Swapping charging hardware is also a way of getting software updates - since the newer hardware comes with later releases (typically).

You could be right Nik, it’s not being recovered until Monday and because of the festive break they are unlikely to look at it until new year! I believe the AA are going to sort me a temporary car on Monday ( from thrift rental I believe).

Hi Don. I feel silly for mentioning this but under the circumstances may worth looking into it.
I have read posts that sometimes the MG app reverts the charging level to 40% on its own accord. People couldn't charge and went through all kinds of trouble till finding out it was the app.

Morning Nik, it was a good thought and I’ve just checked the app, unfortunately all is good at that end.
I guess I’ll have to wait for MG to get back to work after new year so that they can diagnose the issue.
Hopefully it wont be something that’s going to drag on ( she who must be obeyed is already questioning my choice !).
I’ll keep you all updated when I have news.
Happy new year all

Sorry to hear this 😞
I know the feeling. My wife's Atto3 was my recommendation and had an issue on the same afternoon we took delivery. Dealer never managed to resolve and after quite a bit of back and forth we ended up rejecting and replacing.
It created a lot of tension...

MG dealers vary in quality but there are good ones out there, so if you don't get a decent response from your original supplying dealer, do try alternatives (the warranty applies everywhere).

It is common with new MGs/IMs (well for any just-launched car from any maker) for there to be some teething problems that the first owners encounter. At that point, the technicians at the dealers are new to the cars too, so the knowledge base is low. This does mean that resolving problems early on can take some time.

However, I'd be very surprised if this isn't easily fixable. The car hardware has been around in Asia for quite a while and should be well proven. The most likely thing is some kind of software incompatibility that only shows up in the UK (such as the peculiarities of our charging network).

Don, you spent a lot, so don't be afraid to push the dealer to perform. Good luck with it.

I appreciate your comments tsedge and agree, things do go wrong and the important thing is the way the dealer principle reacts to the problem. Hopefully if it needs any parts replaced there will be no supply issues. The other issue is it’s not a great time to have problems, during holiday time you tend to visit family etc, not easy without a car. Dealers themselves are either closed or working with limited technicians available which makes repairs potentially even slower.
It’s unfortunate as the car ( forgetting about the annoying software issues) is damn good once updates start to arrive it may well be stunning.
My issue may be if the fault was to drag on at all, she who must be obeyed is already questioning my choice !
Hopefully all will resolve quickly

Don, are you still within your 30 days?
If so you are still within your rights to reject.
Or at least formally declare your intention to do so, therefore if it drags on you can still reject.
In my wife's case we declared our intention to reject in February, car was replaced in July.

Did similar with my X Power. Because of the vibe problems. Even though my X Power didn't have them. Registered my intention after about 10 days, just in case.
Anyway 30 days came and went. And it's been fine. Good luck with your motor, Don. Bet it's summut and nowt, although bloody annoying. Hope it gets sorted quickly, to your satisfaction. 🙂👍

Had the car for about 6 weeks now Nik, but I will be making noises about rejecting the car if a swift remedy can’t be found ( I have no intention doing so as I like the car) - but hopefully they will expedite the repair ( again subject to any parts that might be required);

Let’s hope so Salty ( I’ll get the wife a large gin later - that might settle her down a bit 😂)
