First Service Cost

I am so glad I didn't take the deal my dealer offered when I bought the car - which was significantly more expensive than @siteguru's, which I knew about at the time. I had a bad feeling about the dealer and didn't want to tie myself in to them. I was right.
To be honest I'm finding the same as @Les burrows , the 1st 3 services were Ā£114, Ā£214 & Ā£114. The next 3 are quoted at Ā£250, Ā£265 & back down to Ā£217 (i.e. twice as much). Given that it includes (some form of breakdown with the AA), its still pretty good value for money. The MG4 is still my 1st car, that has never needed to go back for a warranty claim / fault to be fixed (aside from the LKA which although does come on every time now from default, its okay and doesnt try to kill me šŸ‘)
 
My VW ID7 EV first service is due at 2 years. Mrs G just paid £70 for her 1st service on a Corsa-e.

I do think MG are ā€œmilking itā€ on service costs and any other work myself. It’s probably the way the whole MG dealerships are setup (franchised ?). And even then they won’t do free software updates unless you have specific issues.

My previous car was a Tiguan 170 sport, 58 plate (which I still have), VW never updated modules either, and even 15+ years ago, it was still over Ā£200 (min) for each service, even on longlife / 2 years. I was paying Ā£150 until recently for AA breakdown / relay, which I'd only ever used once in nearly 40 years (and that was only for a tyre which had caught someones mudflap). So I'm happy to pay MG prices šŸ‘ šŸ‘ šŸ‘

And yet Hyundai only charges Ā£65 for these ā€œbasicā€ services for the Electric Ioniq, and actually will perform updates on their own. Yet, MG want best part of Ā£150.

Can’t compare an ICE car where they actually change oil and filters with the MG tick box only service.

That’s not my experience with a VW Golf Mk 8 when my car was in the dealership at its first service. All software updates were done free of charge which took two days in total with a free courtesy car.

ICE cars are bound to be more expensive servicing as there are a lot more fluids to change - check the price of oil changes 🄺. These are not required with an EV so why pay similar prices to ICE services and why so frequent here in the UK for the MG (annually) if Tesla /VW can do the first service at the end of Year 2 ?
 
My X Power 1st service was Ā£143 probably was expensive for what they actually did, but they did check under the car on ramps, which I can't do. And I suppose tick a lot of boxes. And my AA was renewed for another year. To be honest I can live with that. šŸ™‚šŸ‘

... from recollection (15-20 yrs ago) it was a 1-year warranty with VW (and the rest was a good will gesture - which you needed to show by having the car serviced at VW šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø)
 
The AA renewal does count for a fair bit I agree šŸ‘. Always worth checking it was renewed a week after the service too by ringing them up šŸ‘Œ

Always good at resale too to have full MG service record done on time.
I agree with the need to check your AA or I believe RAC has been updated by your dealer I have read on here in other threads about owners finding the dealer has forgotten to update the breakdown cover regardless of which breakdown service is being used at the time others have been caught out so give them a call and check your vehicle is on the register.

Cupra is every 2 years also
