Have you got any rust on your MG ZS EV?

I'm going to wait until the first service in July and see if they say anything when they do the corrosion checks, if not then out comes the Waxoil or Supertrol.

Yes - as some have said, I really think that the area of the production ‘bungs’ should be treated as it seems particularly vulnerable ? i have heard of some saying that this area was done on their first service.

A quick update. I couldn’t resist taking another look at the ‘bungs’. I peeled one of the bungs back and it seems that the circle of rust is just that - a circle around the outside of the bung. Underneath looks like new as the bung seems to have protected it - so it‘s not rusting from inside the hole outwards as I first thought (well on mine anyway). It still needs better protecting though in my opinion along with some other areas Underneath the car.

That's strange, makes me wonder where the rusty stain is coming from.

I've found your bladder gets weaker as you get older. The plastic seats are a blessing!

Easy enough to rectify at this stage, but it should have never left the factory or the dealer conducting the PDI to cause this situation.
The customers should not be rectifying this oversight that's for sure !.

Yeh - might have been better to just leave them out!

Never should happened in the first place.
Half arsed job !.
If the metal had been treated correctly before the cars hit the road and been exposed to the weather, we would not be having this conversation now.
Untreated material, either steel alloy or even wood for that matter is going to have its life cycle reduced greatly without some form of treatment / protection given to it.
A complete and utter over sight pure and simple.
I was of the opinion that an underbody and upper body check was part of the service schedule ?.
A precondition of the warranty ?.
This therefore should have been picked up and reported straight back to MG.
Then, remedial action put in place when the cars are submitted up for service.
About 1 hour of labour would sort this issue on a ramp.

Yes I agree. My car is yet to have it’s first service but this is still unacceptable and should have been part of the pdi?
There are other areas on the car where seams are showing ‘browning’ and the overall underbody protection seems to be well applied in some areas and none existent in others. At just a few months old I feel that is unacceptable.
whilst I’m not going to go overboard with this, I’m very disappointed and I’ve emailed MG and the dealer. I’ve really enjoyed the car so far and the issue with this is. it knocks any confidence that you might have in keeping the car for a longer term which I had planned to do.
I’m hoping that somehow my confidence in the corrosion resistance of the car can be restored - let’s see what MG have to offer. ?

I've been prompted by all these posts (and the sunshine) to go and look at my bungs for the first time in 5 months. I didn't put the car up on ramps this time so didn't remove them but there doesn't appear to be any fresh rust staining, however due to being retired and the covid effect, the car has done very few miles since I removed the bungs last November to underseal around and underneath them.

As Cocijo mentioned earlier in the thread, this touching up of the stone chip treatment in the masked areas ought really to be done at the factory or as part of the PDI.

I brushed underseal onto all the masked-up areas that I could see and reach in the first week of ownership (not much fun in November!)

A good move by you. It looks how it should from the factory. You shouldn’t need to do it though.

I have seen one or two You Tube Vids of ZS owners with rust coming up on the under side of the cars.
Some less than a year old!
Also seen a few posts on Facebook about the problem.

Whilst washing my 16month old ZS EV on Friday I noticed a mark on the front middle of the roof. On closer investigation I saw it was a rust spot. Looks like from under the paint. Took it down to the dealer and I am waiting on response from MG

I am unable to gain access to the under body of my car due to a total knee replacement, so it will have to go untreated I am afraid.
If had the chance, I would remove the four bungs and inject some wax oil or something similar.
Then I would reinstall the bungs, seal around them and include the surrounding area.
