Has this happened to anyone on here??? Today as I drove home the lane keep warning came up as not working with also a power steering fault as well. I managed to get home but the steering was awful, could hardly turn it. I called out MG assist AA. The patrol man told me these cars are so new we can't do a lot with them. My car is a Trophy which is 11 months old. He told me to disconnect the 12V battery if it happens again. Luckily after it was parked for an hour or so, when it was turned on again all was back to normal. The app didn't show a previous fault message at all either.

Happened to me for a few seconds before Xmas. Luckily I was on a straight road and it resolved itself before it became an issue. Have late ‘22 Trophy.

Just had this, leaving for work this morning, just as I entered a hairpin bend …. MG have kindly picked the car up to have it checked out. Not going very fast but … V scary … no steering just when I needed it …

Yes agree its not a pleasant experience luckily it only happened to me the once .

Pleased to hear it. Car has been at the dealers a couple of days now. I got an alert on the phone showing they encountered the same fault while testing it. But when chatted to the front desk, they said 90 plus faults logged when car was delivered, so they cleared the faults, updated software, and have not able to reproduce the issue when test driving it. They are awaiting instructions from HQ or something on next steps.?‍♂️

Time for an update for those interested … Car has been with the dealer for over two weeks now. From what I could see on the app they reproduced the brake failure code on the first day they had it. They said they cleared error codes, updated software, and tested again. They tell me they haven’t been able to reproduce the error since, but don't want to return the car yet, as they want to do more testing. Theyve been doing diagnostic checks, physical checks, and getting their techs to drive the car to and from the dealers each day (with my permission). I guess they still suspect the issue isn’t fixed, but can’t find the cause. No end in sight yet ….

At least they are taking it seriously and investigating it thoroughly unlike some dealers who would clear the codes and give the car back.

Interestingly, it’s been a long wait and a lot of testing, but I’ve just been getting alarms on phone, they’ve managed to reproduce the error !! Annoying not having the car. But I agree - dealer has been going into bat for me on this one, if there is an issue I’d like to have it fixed.

Good for you but if it's only happening intermittently it will be very hard to fix.I think your dealer is very good but can't keep the car forever .I personally would take it back and hope it doesn't fail again

Ok, final post. Dealer has returned the car. They updated software, and after extensive testing haven’t been able to reproduce the fault (except through controlled tests with the wheels in the air). So MG said they are satisfied, hopefully wont happen again ?. Ideally the software update fixed it, but no guarantees, all covered under warranty though I guess if it does.

Just happened to my 23-plate Trophy (pre tailgate wiper model). Had to do a 36-point turn to go back home, thankfully I'd only gone half a mile - I had done a 300+ mile round trip in it yesterday. Will test it later to see if the fault clears but even if it does I'm reluctant to drive it in case of recurrence.

I’ve had a EPS fault in another Nissan car teaching my daughter how to do reverse parking. After leaving the car for 30 mins it was fine. Could it just be overheating from the 36-point turn ? The fault on my MG4 was definitely different, it was first thing in the morning. But haven’t had an issue with the car since, its been fine.

No the fault occurred whilst driving in a straight line .I had to struggle to get into my garage as the steering was so hard .But it was looked at last year and had never occurred again thank goodness

I had this warning flash today when driving to a parking lot (didn't notice anything unusual with steering though). Maybe a glitch? The steering wheel makes a squeaky sound especially at lower speeds when turning, but I assume this is normal.

Take both 12V battery leads off, clean the terminals and apply some anti oxidising compound, then check they are both tight.
The power steering is powered by the 12V battery and demands a lot of current

I don't believe that we settled where the power steering gets its power from (12V or 400V).

But even if it's from 12V, I believe that it should never come from the 12V battery, as the DC-DC converter should always be running when the power steering is active. An exception would be if the DC-DC converter is not working, or if it's at its current limit (unlikely, as that limit is well over 150A).

Can only get the power steering to work on the write off MG4 with a jump battery or a fully charged battery, the main pack is isolated and the hazards flash constantly and a warning beeper and visual warning to get out of the car when safe to do so ..... The battery has to be disconnected to stop the lights and beepers etc

This is a bit late on this subject. Vauxhall had a similar problem with one of there models several owners reported having problems with the power steering which was also electric. Vauxhall denied it was a problem. Also if I remember correctly they also had cars catching fire because of a heater fault
