MG iSMART

You can only bind to the car once, so how can the next owner use it ??
Just unbind it, which removes the link to your account. It can only be ‘bound’ to one account at a time, and the account doesn’t have an option for 2 or more users unfortunately

Ah yes, makes sense. I had tried to set up a new account but it wouldn't play ball as it was still bound to the original, which it constantly said didn't exist so I couldn't unbind that.
Claimed it was sending a verification code multiple times but never did. Then on the gazillionth try it let me in with the details I knew were correct all along.
Be prepared for fun if you change phones !

That doesn’t sound too promising…

On another note with the ISMART App.
Under My Profile, Alarm Setting I am trying to activate the notifications, vehicle start and vehicle fault. When I move the slider along it tries to activate but moves back to the off position within a few seconds.

I have tried clearing the cache and logging off and back onto the app but no joy.

It has worked in the past when I was monitoring the car while in the dealership. It’s in there again now but cannot activate these notifications. Anyone else had this issue?
I purchased an MG4 and I too face the same problem and the showroom staff are also not aware how to activate the notification

I think that the server may be down because it is telling me to bind my car which I have already done previously. When I try to scan the QR code it says that it is not available.

I'll have to change phones, as the one I have doesn't have Android Auto and can't get it!

Just make sure you unbind the current phone from the car before changing, then you should be able to bind the new one without too many issues

What if someone unknown binded their phone to the car? How can you force unbind an unknown phone?

They need to access the car to bind to it. The only way I’m aware of is by the QR code on the car’s infotainment screen.

Mine is a demonstrator - I'm getting it in a month or so, with a good discount from new, but someone has bound a phone to the car.
Ask the dealer if one of the salesman has done it to demonstrate the app and to unbind their phone, otherwise as Diggsy has said, make sure they contact MG to remove that account before you take delivery.

I am bit confused about the discussion here, just wanted to check my understanding.

The "bind" process is more like registration with the user registering EITHER by phone number OR by email address - my dealer recommened I used my email address . This registration/bind process creates an account for the car on the MG servers that associates the car's VIN with that phone number or email.

Then, on ANY phone, a user can login to the app using those credentials and control the car. The act of logging in on a second (or new phone) automatically logs out the last device to login, so only one phone can have the app running at once.

So when I had a new phone the other day, I just logged in with my same email/password and the app worked.

The problem comes when you want to change the email address or phone number originally bound/registered - I think people are saying if you don't unbind then you have to contact MG. This is not something I will ever have to worry about unless I change my email address, which is unlikely because I own the domain, but will happen if I sell the car, obviously.

Have I got this right?

Yes. You have your own MG account which is accessed by your phone number/email address and a PIN number which you set up when setting the account up.

The first QR code just takes you to either Apple's or Android's app store to download the app. The second smaller QR code then links/binds the car to your MG account.

As long as you use the same log in details you can log into your MG account from any device which then accesses the car. Only one device can be connected at once so it kicks out the previously logged in device.

There are two ways to break the link between the car and your MG account. One is for the current owner to unbind the car from the account before selling it for example, or for MG themselves to break the link between the car and the MG account.

The thing to remember is the car isn't bound directly to your phone so if either the car or your phone hasn't got a connection to MG's servers or MG's servers are down it won't work.
