MG iSMART

Mine is a demonstrator - I'm getting it in a month or so, with a good discount from new, but someone has bound a phone to the car.
  1. Create an account in ismart.
  2. Swipe the infotainment screen to the left (page 2).
  3. Tap the User icon and enter credentials create in step 1. This will get you to the QR code to add the car in iSmart
  4. If you get "No network..." error and the car is close enough to the house to pick up Wi-Fi, connect the car to it and try again.
    1. The Wi-Fi can be added in the Settings icon on page 2

Yes we tried that but the car says something like "the car is already bound to another account" and we think it is someone who drove the demonstrator. Thanks for your help though.

The car has been back to the dealers, u able to solve the problem. Told they will need to speak to MG and have the car unbound?, awaiting on a date, one week later no word.

Still waiting on the dealership to contact us 12 days !!!!!!!

Have you tried resetting to Factory?

Hi
Are you are still waiting on the dealership to clear the phone that is bound.

The car is going into the dealership on the 16th.
Thought about factory setting fine for the car but ismart account will show email is already in use and will not reset account.

All now working thanks to Miles at Chorley after a suggestion Miles said try logging on using the phone number of the binded phone. Eureka it all works.

Another thank you to Miles
Out of interest how did you get or know the number of the phone bound to the car.

Miles was able too see my account after Vin number reg number and phone number and email address he was able to determine that I should use the phone that we used in the original binding
I see do not remember you saying that you were using a different phone but a good lesson for all. Thank you and glad all is working and saves a trip to the garage who probably would not think of that.

I used email also - mainly because (at the time) the phone SMS activation system with the app didn't work. It seems that failing was a blessing. :)

Just for anyone who hasn't bound their phone yet, if you use an email address instead of a phone number then you can easily change your phone and it will make no difference - assuming you don't change your email address. My dealer recommended this as the better option.

I think I'm going to have to change my phone, because the one I have doesn't support Android Auto, and on top of that, for some reason I don't understand it is refusing to synch my contacts with the car (although it is working perfectly well as a car phone). I suspect the dealer bound it to the phone number. Sigh. But if I keep the same number with a new handset, wouldn't that just go on working?

Just curious, maybe nothing to do with the issue, but are your contacts stored on the phone, or on the SIM? No idea if it makes a difference but it just came to mind that if stored on the SIM, maybe that’s why they won’t sync…

I'm not really sure. I have a memory from a few months ago when I went through my texting history storing people's numbers as contacts that it said something about the latest contacts not being synched, and I had little idea what it meant by that. After that there was the occasional message about synching contacts, then it stopped. I've been through settings and tried to open everything to Yes, but it still doesn't work.

OK, I have just discovered that the contacts are stored on the phone, not the SIM. That's something, anyway.

It might be worth testing the water just to see if copying them to the SIM allows them to sync

That shouldn't matter ... all my contacts are in my phone, none in my SIM. My contacts sync just fine over Bluetooth.

I don't know what's going on now. I fiddled around a bit more with the settings on my phone, although I couldn't see anything that had been preventing them from synching. I went out to the garage and woke the car up from its post-prandial nap, and opened the phone window on the infotainment screen. It suddenly displayed the word "Synchronising..." and it's been like that ever since. I've taken the bins out and done a bit more garage tidying and I'm wondering how long this is going to take.
