MG iSMART

I'm not really sure. I have a memory from a few months ago when I went through my texting history storing people's numbers as contacts that it said something about the latest contacts not being synched, and I had little idea what it meant by that. After that there was the occasional message about synching contacts, then it stopped. I've been through settings and tried to open everything to Yes, but it still doesn't work.

OK, I have just discovered that the contacts are stored on the phone, not the SIM. That's something, anyway.
If you have Android back-up on your phone all of your contacts will be stored in the cloud and will download onto a new phone when you sign in to your Gmail account.

Have a look here for more information

I have no idea. The app just opens when I tap it. I have to use a PIN to get it to make the car do anything, but I don't have to log in.
When the dealer helped you to bind your phone to the car did he ask for your phone number or email address and a password?
You'll need both to sign back into the iSmart app on the new phone.

When I got this new phone four years ago, the sales assistant in the O2 shop did all the importing of contacts and so on from the old phone. He was great, and I just smiled and said thanks.

I honestly can't remember what the dealer did when he handed over the car. I remember him binding the phone, and I remember him asking me some questions, but I was so excited it's all a bit of a blur now.

You will have to unbind your current phone from the car before getting the new one.

Open the iSmart app. On the screen that shows the battery percentage tap the cars name at the top of the screen. On the next screen tap the small Unbind in red at the back of the image of the car.
What happens after that I don't know as I don't want to mess my binding up. Selfish I know ?

Thanks, I'll try to remember that when I get the new phone.

Mind you, if the phone will work as a hands free car-phone just on the Bluetooth, as it seems it will, I'm less excercised about getting a new phone immediately. I'm not a great fan of satnavs, and my entertainment is served by the radio and the USB stick, so I'm not massively hankering after Android Auto after all. I'll get there, but it's not a priority.

"Synchronisation failed" just as every other time, despite this time seeming to try to do it for quite a while. I have no clue.
