Has anyone taken out an MG service plan? I'm thinking of doing so, but there's very little detail about what you're actually buying on the MG website?

Some specific questions

  • You're asked to nominate a service location as you sign up. Is the plan tied to this location, or honoured by all service centres?
  • Is the plan transferable to a new owner if the vehicle is sold?

I think you are buying the plan from the dealer via MG so I doubt it's transferable between service centres. No idea if the actual ownership is transferable.
As for what is included, it's whatever the current due service is, i'e. 1 yr, 2 yr, 3 yr etc.

The service plan will fix the cost of all services within your selected number of years which will maintain your warranty and include AA assist. It’s set up with your nominated dealer so only they can do the servicing.

Plan is not transferable, but all unused contributions can be transferred to a new MG ( I moved mine from my x power to my S6} or can be refunded less a £30 admin fee (current).

Hope that helps.

Is this supposition or experience? I may not have made it clear that I'm talking about buying through the MG website, not directly from a dealer.

Is this in writing anywhere?
Hope that helps.
It does - thanks!

When you buy through the MG site the response will come from the dealer (I have done this, I know). MG is just the middle man, it's the dealer who gets your money and services the car.

Many thanks for this. I'll think more, but probably not bother then.

Personal experience, x power purchased through MG website, transfer sorted by dealer.

Just FYI, purchased a 3 year service plan for my 2024 x power, only had a single service, 2025, changed to new s6 in January, took out a new 3 year plan on it, dealer arranged transfer of funds in their entirety to it, paying £8 a month for it with the credit. Well pleased.
