MG4 SE LR says 100% charge but only 165 miles shows

Hi - new owner here! Still finding out about the car but enjoying it too. Problem is, I’m finding that my SE LR will charge to 100% but only 165 miles shows immediately after charging. I’ve found a few posts that suggest that cold weather has an effect on this but this seems like a rather dramatic difference from the claimed range. Can anyone suggest what I need to look at - software issues for example?

They don't - they affect how many miles can be achieved for a given charge. (The capacity doesn't change, the range estimation does depending on how heavy your right foot is).

Just as siteguru says. There are not miles in the battery, but electricity. The car estimates your range from the amount of electricity related to your driving style and environment features (mainly temperature).
It takes your driving style from your Total trip counter, thus resetting that makes thw difference.
If the range goes up when resetting, you could drive "better". If it goes down you are a saint

Thanks. I understand the point about how the range estimate works but I’m surprised by just how big the gap between the theoretical range of the model (288 miles or whatever) and the estimates turns out to be.
Is there a way to see how much electricity is stored at all?

Yes there is.
Right in front of you. If is says 100% it means that there is as much electricity stored, as your battery is.

As an approximation look at your accumulated miles/kWh and multiply that by your battery size.

In Winter most of my driving is local so my average speed is low but there's no real chance for the battery to warm and I'm using the HVAC. I expect my max range to be lower. Currently, at 80% the GOM is showing 166 miles.

I’m aware of that but I was hoping for some more objective figure. Like kWh or something.
I’m still in the world of objective measurements like gallons and litres I think!

No display for kWh so you have to apply the percentage to the usable battery capacity off of the MG website. It's about 60kWh for the long range I think.

My SR is currently showing 172 miles at 100%, which is actually better than usual in a Scottish winter. However my recent drives have been quite long and I've seen more like 145 miles when doing very short journeys with a lot of pre-heating.

I've recently taken to pre-heating the battery pack before long journeys, and "intelligent battery heating" has been left on, so who knows, maybe that actually helps.

Mine is exactly the same this cold weather, will be well over 200 come summer

Usable battery capacity in the LR models is supposedly 61.7kWh, so 100% = 61.7kWh available. If you get 3 miles per kWh then your full range (100% to 0%) would be 3 x 61.7 = 185 miles shown on the GoM.

165 miles suggests an efficiency of about 2.7 miles per kWh.

The cold winter days and no preheating will indeed net you a lower kWh/mile. However unless you're needing to drive a long distance etc or don't have the capacity to just plug it in whenever you need. I largely ignore the estimates.

Look at your Accumulated Total trip counter ... I think the GoM uses that to estimate remaining range.

Our MG4 has halved from 260 to 130 when charging 100%. Really shocked as it’s not been that cold down south and got at least 160/180 last winter. When speed limiting kicks in when you’re down to the last 20 miles too it’s such a pain. Car not even 2 years old so kind of shocked too to be honest.

Reset your trip counters, charge to 100% and leave to battery balance then but into ready mode with the fan, heater, lights etc all off and in eco mode that should show a factory GOM
