MG4 Software Update Thread

I couldn’t fully resolve the issue. The car is receiving updates belonging to the Luxury versions.

We can perform the update via USB for the Luxury package, but when we want to switch the screen back to the SE model, the car does not recognize the USB.

I still don’t understand how the SE vehicle previously received the Luxury software in the first place.

Do you have the SE software in the correct format/folders? (As I recall from reading this and other threads, the Luxury/Trophy and Standard/SE software must have different folder layouts).

I extracted the R40 files I found on the forum onto the USB like this. Isn’t that correct?

Greetings,

Just registered here on the forums to contribute my two cents as well, this forum has been a great help to get acquainted with the ins and outs of my Trophy ER that I got this spring.

Had the same intermittent issue where every two weeks or so the car would lose all of its Bluetooth connections, while simultaneously accumulating a buttload of them on my phone(s). I noticed that especially when driving in short bursts and letting the car sit locked for 10 minutes or so between trips, would the car more often than not lose the connections.

Had my local dealer run the infotainment updates from R30 to R63 previously with no luck, but now for the past month I've been rocking the R67 and so far no dropped connections. knocks on wood

No other issues with R67 either, except the old bug of a bit of leftover French translations in some of the menus in my otherwise Finnish infotainment. They are so familiar languages after all... ;)

I also noticed that R40 (SE) has pretty stable bluetooth connection (knocs on wood). But i still get the occasional issue, when trying to play music over bleutooth or carplay; when i try to play, it immediately pauses. Anyone else experienced that issue?

The reason dealerships try to put us off asking for software updates is that they have to block out half a day in the mechanic's schedule in case the update fails and they have to start over.

If your car is there for half a day anyway (as mine was for SC077) it doesn't hurt to ask for infotainment updates.

Mine (Dec 22) went in for the SC077 today so I asked if they could update the infotainment system too. They said I'd need to "go to the MG website and download the infotainment update onto a USB stick and install it myself". Humph was the sound I made so here I am wondering if I - a reasonably technically-minded person - can do this! I have R16 currently!

Esa es una versión base de software posterior, por lo que la versión 1300R67 no es relevante para tu coche. No estoy seguro de cuál es la versión más reciente del software para la rama SWI133.
¿Entonces no tengo que actualizar?I had downloaded the zip file R63 from Google Drive.

I believe you can update to 1100R33 (assuming you have an SE) via USB ... files should be on the Google drive link mentioned. Anything after that may (or may not - I don't know for sure) require connecting a laptop to the car and running the SIPS software for configuration; this is certainly the case for the Trophy when updating to 1300R63 (or later).

Please post in English.

No, that R63 update you obtained from the Google drive is NOT for your model year car.

How can I find out if there's a newer version for my car?

To run SIPS you need a VDI2 device, right?

I was under the impression that SC077 would be done automatically as part of the cars next service. Is it something that has to be requested as a separate update as the wording of your post seems to suggest. Its booked in for next Monday and I was expecting it to be done then. They have the possibility of keeping it all afternoon , but I was not expecting it to be that long. Better take sarnies!

Your earlier post was half Spanish and half English:
¿Entonces no tengo que actualizar? (Spanish) I had downloaded the zip file R63 from Google Drive. (English)
And the English part was not a translation of the Spanish part. Hence my response. :)

Note: this is how I see your post. You and others may see it presented differently depending on how you have forum options configured. :)

Taken from good old Google:
"MG4 infotainment system updates are not available for free download and cannot be self-installed; they must be performed by an authorized MG dealer or service center"

To which the correct response to the dealer is to tell them where they can "stick" their business.

That's a terrible response, if it is that easy, why don't they have a teenager who can do it for customer vehicles? - Oh, right, probably because there's some law against it and the kids have to be studying for qualifications that will never lead to a worthwhile job!

Oops, I seem to have ranted! Apologies.
