MG4 Software Update Thread

At the moment I don't have access to SIPs, so was checking to see if anyone knew whether the IPK/cluster could be wiped of the previous VIN and restored to a 'factory fresh' state?
You won't be able to wipe VIN from the IPK/cluster with SIPs that way. If you were replacing with a new unit for example, then can only write the VIN to that unit.

I just got the SC077 and R67 updates few hours ago by the dealer. All part of the second year service check. Trophy Extended Range model with rear wiper.

Overall it looks quite an improvement over the previous R46 version.
Main fixes:
Software:
  • able to turn on OPD now every start of the car, not that i use it
  • able to change the left star to 360 camera instead of it being stuck to Regen levels
  • apparently the AC is fixed, so it should not blow freezing cold air when set to 28C
  • lane keeping assist seems way gentler now, time will tell
  • I have the new Navi Route planner thing. My next project, figuring out how to get more chargers in it and how to tell it to use only Tesla for example.
  • i cannot open the "volume" or AC menus by swiping down while in AA, was expected because of some Android overlay issue, but then weirdly the AC (right star) does overlay the quick AC UI over AA. Go figure.
  • Navi keyboard seems to have bigger, more touch friendly keys?
  • No new maps available, still on 23Q4, i read somewhere there should be 24Q3?
  • bluetooth should now never forget my phone
  • changing lanes is almost life threatening now, was similar but with gentler acceleration. All on MG Pilot. The situation i got into 3 times during 4 km ride was: 2 lanes in the same direction. One has 2 cars waiting for the green light and the other over 10, slowing down. I am in the queue, so i optimize the throuput by moving into the lane with 2 cars. Dotted lines, i indicate and the car changes from slowing down perfectly to stop behind the car in front of me, to all of the sudden seeing a lot of free space (say 8 car lengths). Before it would speed up then immediately notice the error and slowly stop behind the car infront. Now, i had to apply the breaks since the car launched at full throttle and never (well, not for 3 car lenghts) applied brakes. I am hopeful it would have gone into emergency braking, but scared the crap out of me.

Hardware:
  • new wipers, old ones were bad from the start and became useless last few months
  • new polen filter
  • no mention of changing the brake fluid, need to double check.

All in all, 404 EUR for what the dealer called (big maintenance, direct translate from Dutch). Including the new wipers and filter.

I cannot seem to find guides or threads on how to use the route planner and maybe some comparison to ABRP?
Depend on the service plan you have, either low mileage or standard mileage.
If it's standard plan, you would get the pollen filter, key batteries and brake fluid replaced on every two year cycle.

You don't usually get the wiper done as part of a service. Though, if you were happy to do them yourself you can get aftermarket one from Bosch.

Regarding the price of 404 € which equals to £352.27, I'm not sure what to say.

I have the standard plan in that case

I bought those 2 times, i followed a thread here about what model to get for a Trophy, was not fitting, then got 'the other ones' and they also did not fit, so i tried to go the dealer way few times and they said if they are not working they will exchange them under warranty. Even videos were not enough back then. So this time they did replace them, but out of warranty, for about 60 Eur, which is not too bad of a markup.

Me as well, first year was 170EUR and if i take the wipers out, second year is 340EUR, basically double. I will ask around dutch geoups to see if that makes sense.

Thank you, i will check.

You mentioned that you bought aftermarket, which variant did you buy?
I haven't seen what was suggest in the forums.
I got myself a Bosch AEROTWIN replacements over two month ago for both wiper blade on the fronts screen, which fitted as the original. It just cost me 22.95 €, personal I feel 60 € is steep for what you paid for them.

It's interesting to know what kind of prices others are paying for their service. By the way, have you asked them how much they will charge you on the 5th year of it's service?

No kidding! 404 euro is even more than they advertise, despite the blades. I fear you paid for the updates.

The behaviour of the car finding free space is something I experience as well. And Emergency braking not activating is recognizable.

Something else: do you happen to take a road with double solid markers so to prevent you to cross them into the opposite lane? If so, does ELK actually work the whole distance (symbol is green)?

Most likely they will claim they spent time to do the replacement... I asked them to do it under warranty, they did it but was no longer covered, not the best dealer in that sense, operating in the gray area. I should have been also more careful.

But, also i did follow advice from this forum and both options did not work or i couldn't figure it out?

I already challenged the bill and was told that those sales persons are not honest and the 180EUR every service was not true. 3rd year is small service so it will be around that price, but was warned that the 4th year will be even more expensive than the second one i just got.
Not sure i can avoid it since there is only one company i know off that is officially allowed to do that.

Sharing it mostly as a nice to know for other owners and to manage expectations. Also, i am NL based, so maybe it is better in the UK?

In the Netherlands, all MG dealers are afaik owned by Van Mossel, so there’s no competition, which leads to higher prices.

However, they should provide a fairly consistent experience.
Better than what can be experienced in other countries!

Short note from my side.. the zip file (OTA update) from the new found USB Stick is binary checked the same as the leak from the Patreon link (I got a copy from a friend).
The addional files/folder I assume where created during or before the update from the Infotainment and are not needed for the update.
The Patreon link only has the folder AVN_MPU and the OTA update zip.

Yes, these are android temp files.
Harmless and not actually needed!

Thanks for the files, I've also added them to my drive in the same style as the rest of the updates
I'll try it Sunday to see if it actually fixes the Bluetooth

When it comes to FICM updates, the 2024 files I need to extract & repackage as they open as zip files but if you rename as .zip they don't open.

Anyone with a 2024 tried to update?
Noticed both have the USB ota update file in the root of the zip
Not sure if they need the same folder structure or if it reads it from the root on the newer version.

So I did apply the update on my LUX and it worked with only AVN_MPU Folder with the zip file included.
One part that I had to do after the required factory reset is to restart head unit once to get DAB working.
We'll see if Bluetooth is now fixed, the Andorid Auto Volume Bug is still present (Low Volume of Music after Car's Robot Voice Announcement)..
For people that have R46 and did not apply the SIPS update before, may loose the ability to change charging level, same as with R63 before.
I had R63 and SIPS/MCU update in Place. My MCU Version before was and still is 68.4.7.0.

On R59 and the bluetooth issue is quite annoying although SIPS stuff does seem like a hassle if that's what's needed to R67. My MCU is still on 68.4.3.0.
I think you only need SIPS for TBOX MPU/MCU and others as I upgraded my MCU either with R46 or R59 (I forget) and I've never used SIPS

For the R63 there were changes done "under the hood", I assume it was a bug, and when you installed it the charging level could not be changed unless an update via SIPS was done... or if MCU is available on the USB Stick.
I don't know which version of MCU is necessary.
I have done this by myself with the VNCI and SIPS for R63, i did not check for R67..

For R63/R67, version 68.4.7.0 is mandatory.
But R67 come with 68.4.9.0 and it's the latest MCU FICM version right now
