MG4 Software Update Thread

They don't really release beta versions, like R70 they can easily not release a version
Sometimes like all updates from any company they can miss a bug

MG rarely give a reason for an update, if you wish you could extract the update and look for the differences like below which might give a hint, you could also compare the code if you really wished

In short: This is the R45 version Comfort model firmware. Inside the file, there are md5_check.txt and vipimage.bin. The file named ‘EH32-COLARRADION MTK2712_vip app for USB v69510_20251126.bin’ exists in it. Is this file compatible/suitable for the R71 version?”
Here is the English translation of the provided text:

Dear friends, I wanted to get some information: Do you think the information in this text is accurate…

My current MCU version is 68.4.7.0 – this information clarifies everything!

This version is specific to Luxury/Trophy models (especially the MG4 Luxury 64 kWh or Trophy Long Range in the European/Turkish markets). Comfort models generally have MCU in the 69.x series (e.g. 69.3.8.0, 69.4.x.x etc.), because there is a hardware-software distinction:

• SWI68 series (68.x MCU) → Luxury/Trophy/XPower (premium trims).

• SWI69 series (69.x MCU) → Comfort/SE/Standard (more basic trims).

It is clearly stated in forums (especially mgevs.com) and in the MG4 wiki:

• 68.4.7.0 → Usually matches with R59 or R63 package (can even be upgraded to SIPS on R46).

• This MCU has become standard in Luxury-focused updates like R59/R63/R67 (e.g. for features such as charge limit toggle, HVAC configuration, Bluetooth stabilization, etc.).

• It is rarely seen on Comfort vehicles – if present, it means the service has cross-flashed it via SIPS or the vehicle was delivered with a configuration close to Luxury.

What Does This Mean for You?

• Your vehicle is definitely an MG4 Luxury (or Trophy equivalent) – not Comfort. MCU 68.4.7.0 definitively places it in the Luxury/Trophy category.

• That’s why V69510 (dated 20251126, the COLORRATION file) perfectly matches your model:

• VIP_APP + COLORRATION → Designed specifically for Luxury screen/color improvements.

• High version number (69510), meaning it’s an improvement after R71/R67 (late 2025 update).

• Even though it appears in R45 USB (looks like it leaked into Comfort packages – MG sometimes puts cross files), since your MCU is in the Luxury series, it is directly compatible and ideal.

Compatibility and Recommendation

• Yes, this file is a perfect match for the Luxury model – it even brings newer features (color calibration, VIP app optimizations) compared to your current 68.4.7.0.

• Why isn’t it in the R71 Luxury USB? Because R71 packages are MPU-focused (MPU is updated via USB), they left the MCU to SIPS (68.4.7.0 is already quite high, newer ones are in SIPS). Files like V69510 circulate in separate packages (leaked into R45).

• For installation:

• In Engineering mode (tap version 5 times + code 200519), also check your current MPU version (e.g. SWI68-…-1300Rxx).

• Try via USB/forUSB – most likely it will boot without issues.

• But take a backup (if possible), and after installation do a factory reset + configuration (for charge limit etc.).

• If any problem occurs (rare), go to an MG service – since your MCU is in the Luxury series, you will receive official support.

The big question is of R71 support mcu 68.4.9.0 or only the latest 68.5.X.X
I think higher MCU versions are compatible with lower MPU. I updated to 68.5.2.0 while I was on R67. Yesterday I updated to R71 and today there was no update for FICM in SIPS. The 68.5.2.0 is available in SIPS since 2026-01-23

@serkancelenk So what's your goal? To install R45 on a Trophy/Luxury? 🤓

Does the R45 version include an Mcu ? isn't that version also installabe on the luxury model ?
in short ,is there no MCU file in the luxury usb ?Aren't vipimage.bin and md5.check.txt the mcu files ?
Are these version not loaded /installed on luxury model vehicles...

@serkancelenk Please don't mix up different versions. If you're driving a model with SWI68, use R69/70/71 and if you're using a model with SWI69, use R40/42/45. 😉

Only for Luxury: MCU only via SIPS with newer releases.

Maybe we can use SWI69 MCU file at SWI68 systems?
I'm sure that's been tried before - or maybe it was Trophy software on the SE. I think the advice was - don't do it.

I see no reason whatsoever why a Trophy owner would want to use SE software. 🤷‍♂️

Fixed - you said SWI68 twice. :)

i am not talking about having SE softwere on Trophy.
i am talking about taking the MCU file 68.5.2.0 from the SE
and insert it to the R71 files.

because until R46/R59 the Trophy came also with USB MCU file.
i think i will go for R67 because i have 68.4.9.0 on my car and no VNCI/VDI.

Yes, but i am talking about lower MCU (68.4.9.0) with higher MPU (R71)

@BingBong Please do it the right way if you plan to do it by yourself. Or take assistance from a MG car dealer nearby your location.

What you’re planning to do is what I’d call cherry-picking: taking the newest bit from here and the newest bit from there.
I understand your intention though – you’re basically trying to bypass SIPS for the MCU on the Luxury by using the one from the Standard, since that one is still flashable via USB for now.

@BingBong I don't think is a good idea to swap MCU between SWI68 and SWI69. SWI69 has MCU 69.x.x.x and SWI68 has MCU 68.x.x.x.
When I had R67 with older MCU(68.4.3.0) I could not set the charge limit in the FICM
I agree. I just updated to R67 with 68.4.9.0. Charge limit scroll still functional.

White android auto theme at startup did not solved at R67. Interesting if at R71

@BingBong Where are you from in the EU? Maybe there're another MG4 community members that can help you with SIPS etc.
I am from Israel. Also Romanian citizen...
My problem is that i don't have WIFI at my garage. If i had i would order vnci.

Btw, anyone noticed that R67 doesn't have "please plug to charger" message?

@BingBong You could solve your WiFi problem either with a long ethernet cable (cheap, CAT5 is enough for around 100 Mbit/s) or you can use your phone's hotspot function 😉. USB Tethering is an option, too --> you use your phone like a wired modem.

For the missing message: Maybe a soft reboot is needed? Long press on home 🏠 button.
