I have an MG4 that is ~6months old.

We have myenergi zappi and intelligent octopus go tariff.

As we often get cheap charges through the day, we always leave the car plugged in whenever it's at home.

Yesterday morning the car was fully charged, we took it out for a 45 mile journey and plugged it back in. Later in the day we tried to use the car again, but it would not go into gear as the car thought the charging cable was still connected.

We tried everything we could, but to no avail and today MG assist (AA) has taken the car to the dealer with a service appointment booked for thursday.

I did see an old post on the topic but there wasn't an explanation of the cause.

Wondering if anyone has any info or advise they can share

It'll be interesting to see what they find.

They will either do a lot of software updates or just disconnect the 12v battery for a few minutes to rest everything.

@cjkelly83, this thread may have answered my question in the other thread you started. The Mods may merge them.

It would be interesting to know what the AA technician did/checked, if you can remember. The 12V disconnect usually rectifies stuck 'bits' in software but won't fix hardware faults.

Did he try plugging in/removing the cable, starting a charge/cancelling a charge, using the charge plug lock manual override? All a few times?

I started the other post as I wasn't 100% sure they were directly connected beyond the towing being caused by the charging error.

I wasn't there as I'm away with work, but my wife told me he did try plugging and unplugging (we had also done this ourselves). Doubt he manually started a charge, but the car was at 100% after charging yesterday (it charged yesterday evening under octopus control after the error was identified)

Can't comment on charge plug override I don't know what that is

Charge plug override ... the manual mechanism accessed via the left side of the boot to release the locking pin in the charge port? (Typically used to release a charge plug that is locked into a car).
