No doubt it's Technically better in most things. That probably wouldn't be hard.
But God it's a Tad, Boring to look at. Might look better in the flesh, so to speak. Hope so. 🙂👍

The new MG4 EV seems totally a different car - it's front wheel drive. A larger screen and also a lot fancy functions but cheaper at least in China.

It's not coming here initially, UK is getting a face-lifted version of the current 4

the new MG4EV is more like a for China version. the current version is more popular abroad than in China. The visual part of this car can't promote itself among the competitors here. SAIC stopped selling the old version in China.

The blurb in the release advertorial says it retains the 120kW rear wheel drive, changing the MG4 to front wheel drive would wreck a good vehicle

I like that the gear selector knob and annoying plastic bit has been removed and replaced with an induction charger pad ..... I don't have an induction charging capable phone .... at least I don't think it has induction charging, but my phone could still sit there with the lead to the USB port that makes Google Maps work at least a little quicker, it lets you know about 2 mtrs before you need to turn that way, instead of 10 mtrs after you have missed the turn ..... but at least Karen is getting better at it

We are in a phase where EV makers are building small EVs at low prices: which requires FWD for the best price/space compromise.

This isn't new, it is what happened with ICE cars: FWD dominates the mass market: people want cheap cars with lots of space and only need them to drive "well enough".

But it doesn't mean RWD is going away; that will be there for those that prefer the driving experience and will pay more for less space but more fun.

The updated European/Australasian MG4 is believed to be an interior-refresh only, no changes to the drivetrain or exterior.

The China-launched new cheap FWD "MG4" is confusing because China never used the name "MG4", the existing car is called the "Mulan". So it is a brand new vehicle for them. They needed to launch it as sales of the Mulan were very poor in the Chinese market.

If we end up getting the new Chinese "MG4", it will be alongside our existing car and it may well be called something else to differentiate it. It is actually bigger than our MG4.

MG are also thought to be working on a smaller car (MG2?), to match the iD.Polo, Renault 5 etc... which will be FWD and hopefully we will see sometime this year or next.

Well if you look at the Renault 5, rear passenger space is tight and the boot isn't big either. But it creates a small, nippy, light 4-seater car that is very easy to park, fun to drive and very stylish (in a retro way).

Ideal for a second car. That's the idea with these.

Don't think I've seen one. It would need to be big enough and fast enough not to get caught in a trucks tyre tread.

Very easy for a small car to become invisible to the driver of some of the big rigs over here. The iMEV was a bit like taking your life in your hands heading out onto the freeway. Staying far enough in front of the trucks to be seen, without using up the limited battery range was a bit of juggling act. I took one for a test drive and very quickly realised just how small they are .... might be ok for town car, but out on the highway ... yeah nah not for me

If the make a smaller MG based on the MG4, they nearly have to make it a 2 seater with carry space, there isn't much space that could be reduced and still make it comfortable for rear seat passengers.

The ID Polo and Cupra Raval are both supposed to be pretty spacious with decent size boots

In this type of car, don't think big luggage space is important. As long you can get a weekly shop in, which it'll mostly used for. And 4 people in reasonably well, for the odd time you do have 3 passengers they are perfect. Plenty big enough for a weekend away, for 2 people. And no doubt could do a long journey, if need be. 🙂👍
