Ripped undertray off

So I went a little too fast through a puddle (maybe 10-15mph).

Unfortunately I heard a bang and my undertray is cracked / hanging off.

What's anyone's experience from here?


Can the tray just be taken off? How much is a replacement?

I did yes, however I never took photos and never bothered complaining knowing that nothing would be done.

Ive manged to take the remains off by undoing all the bolts and screws now. Considering what the part is, I could easily fit it, if its needed.

Even if you haven't previously reported it to the dealer it still might be worth telling them as it's a known fault and should be fixed under warranty, and it might save you a bob or two.

It's an eye watering amount of money for some plastic, I guess I'll call up and ask.

You might get lucky but this does illustrate that it's best to report a drooping undertray to your dealer as soon as you are aware of it.

They've booked me in for an inspection however it will cost £130 if its found not to be a warranty issue.

I'll accept that the damage was caused by me, however the drooping undertray was probably a major, if not the factor in this.

The MG4 that swam through the Buttsbury Wash a couple of months ago got off scot-free. That looked to be almost three feet deep and the driver was going a hell of a lot faster than 10 to 15 mph when he entered the water.

I presume his undertray wasn't one of the warped ones. But it does illustrate that taking a puddle at even 15 mph should not damage a car that doesn't have an underlying fault.

I typed that last comment over a coffee while my car was charging. Drove on in the wet and went into a couple of quite nasty puddles/small floods a damn sight faster than 10-15 mph. I do have an undertray bulge, but nothing untoward happened. (If it does, I have already told my dealer I consider this to be a danger.)

Any further update on this? We have had the same happen in recent floods (looks like something in the flood has smashed it, but could also have been ripped off - we had a very minor droopy bit that they refused to do anything about).

If I just replaced it with one from the breakers, would it have any impact on warranty? Also, is it safe to drive with out the cover?

The car should be safe to drive without a cover. I believe some other cars (not MG4) have no cover over the motor/drivetrain area by design.

I cancelled my appointment as I didnt want to run the risk of getting charged.
Paid £75 for a used on from EV breakers.

When its due its service is March, im going to complain about the bulge (still on the new one), and get them to have a look..

I am having trouble finding the 2 clip things from the outer bit of the tray. Its secure with the screws and bolts, but id like the full set.
