Secret menu Mk2 - Pin

OK, I entered #*#4479*#* and then pressed the green call button and no menu opened up, it just tried to call the number(n)

What am I missing now?

I wonder if they use a different number for different zones, if so what is the number for AU/NZ?

Moderator: Added ICODE tags and swallowed star characters.

I dont know for sure, but if it tried to call a number i would guess your phone was connected to the Bluetooth ?

What happens if you do the same, but disable bluetooth on your phone so that it can not actually call anyone. ?

Ah, yes I did have a phone in the car, it was my old Samsung A20 that I was going to setup permanently in the car as a Android Auto unit so even though it didn't have a SIM card the HU must have not known that.

So I tried it with both phones turned off and entered the string again and pressed the call button and absolutely nothing happened  so I have finally setup a Carlinkit box and got the apps I wanted up and running so I give up on trying to hack the HU.

I have native cableless android auto on my MG4. With no extra carlinkit etc. :) I made it work

Just to check, you entered

#*#4479*#*

Note the *#* pattern, it’s a specific code to the processor used in the head unit of which I don’t believe there are any variations at least across 2023 models.

This video shows the process, note there is no need to press dial.

Confusion reigns, your first posted to enter ##4479#* (that is two ## followed by #*) but in the video you enter #*4479*#* so which is right?

I will try #*4479*#* and see what happens.

Here in AU it is only 9:40AM now.

OK, I am in the car and copied exactly as your video shows and yahoo it worked but what I entered is exactly as to showed - *#*4479#*# .

So now that I am in, what can I do?

I would love to add my own apps just like Yahoo has shown then I have no need for CarPlay or Android Auto or the Carlinkit box :)

Moderator: Added ... tags to prevent the forum software from mangling foo into foo. I hope I got it right. The ICODE tag means Inline CODE, i.e. don't mess with this text, and show in monospaced font.

Confusion reigns...
It's also confused by the forum software unhelpfully turning text surrounded by stars into italics, and removing the stars. It's best to avoid this by using the code tag, or inline code even better. Or just spell it out, e.g.
Star hash star four four seven...

I have edited your post to do this; I hope that I got your original intention correct. You can always edit your post if I got it wrong. Edit: I also edited two earlier posts; hopefully I didn't thereby add to the confusion.

Thanks for pointing that out Coulomb.

So completing it in words you enter "Star Hash Star Four Four Seven Nine Hash Star Hash".

That handy feature of the forum software created so much confusion but finally got there.

I thought something seemed off! I’m glad we got there in the end, apologies I didn’t spot the markdown interpretation earlier.

At this point, I don’t know how to go any further with engineering mode so I can’t be of much more use. It might be worth mentioning that the password box on this particular engineering menu is activated by right clicking the bottom right corner 5 times but I’m not aware of a password that works here. Hopefully someone can find some use out of this knowledge.
