Yes. You usually need to unlock to get that Zzzzit sound; that's the sound from a small motor unlocking the charge plug from the car's socket. Otherwise, anyone could pull out your charge plug.

Edit: I don't know if it auto unlocks when the charge is complete. They might do that so that someone else can charge, and/or save you from overstay charges.

Moreover, at least in my case, I noticed that if the car is unlocked but not started, plugging in my granny charger, switched on, locks the car.

You can unlock just the cable rather than the whole car (and switch everything on) via the iSmart app.
