I was totally with you for the first paragraph Ian!I don't drink much alcohol nowadays but when fancy a pint it's Theakston Old Peculier or Hobgoblin Ruby Beer.
If I'm with friends at the pub it's Guinness 0.0

ADMIN!!!Recently I've tried 0% Guinness, which I could not tell the difference between 0% and the alcohol version.
I entered a competition in the late 80's or early 90''s (can't remember exactly)Agree, about the Guinness, they taste exactly the same. To be fair, so do a lot of 0% Lagers and Ciders. I Remember the 1st 0% Lager I tried, years ago. Kaliber think it was called, twas bloody aweful.
But now they, do taste the same, but not with the same effect.![]()
Firstly just using your post @boyfrom64 as an example so please don't take offence.Like others, I don't drink much these days and if I was forced to make a choice between coffee and alcohol, I'd choose coffee.
However, last night I had a couple of small glasses of Rose.
I am partial to Baileys and Guinness, and I have to say that recently I've tried 0% Guinness, which I could not tell the difference between 0% and the alcohol version.
Blimey 8% that's strong stuffA can of cheap Lidl 8% beer which is OK , but we have some chopped up liquorice root , add a tea spoon full with a lump of brown sugar and just cover with boiling water . Leave to cool , strain and add to said beer . Ruddy wonderful.![]()
Some of the bigger supermarkets have a wider range of selections . The highest ABV I've seen is 15% . Not partaken in that one , stronger than a lot of wine , although must admit , it keeps winking at me when I pass by. Even Lidl do 10 and 12% versions , again not tried.Blimey 8% that's strong stuff![]()
