Wheel trims have paint peeling off

That's terrible, there should always be somebody there who can do whatever is required to start a warranty claim with MG Motors, in this case it should require no more than taking the owner and vehicle details, and taking some photographs for a report to MG.

There is no reason whatsoever why it should have to wait until the vehicle is in for service, what happens if there is also nobody available on that day, does it have to wait till your next service?

Very poor.
Exactly, it seems like a ploy so when you get to October, and they look at it and say "well you didn't bring it in when you first noticed it, so it's really your fault, and thus the warranty doesn't cover neglect".

Well no that bit I can’t agree with because I have informed the service advisor who booked the car in for its next service the 3rd one in October and I have sent them an email with pictures so there is a record of the claim.

Now as I stated earlier I think this could have happened be cause the side of the car where both trims are bubbling is in good sunlight for a lot of the day as the other side as nothing like this happening there is definitely no damage to the trims at all it is just bubbling to the top surface lacquer what I fine strange is the car has aways been in the same parked position from new and yet this is the first time this has occurred the recent hot sunny weather we have had might be the difference but this should still not happen.
I think I will also send a copy of my pictures and explain what I was told by my dealer direct to MG to further strengthen my record of complaint.

The other thing I might do is to swap the trims around by putting the offside bubbled one on to the other side the the good ones at the moment onto the off side and into the sunlight to see if they react in the same way if the sunshine ever returns what do you guys think.

I think that's a good idea Les, obviously strong sunlight shouldn't affect them in any way (unless it's hotter in Wigan than it is in Australia, lol), but it may satisfy your own curiosity.

Ref #15, #17,#22 so had a call from my dealer Chorley MG the other day in regards to the EMail I sent them about the paint/ lacquer bubbling on the two offside wheels on my wifes 4 SE, saying they need to see the problem so could I bring the car to the dealership for inspection so this afternoon I went spoke with a nice lady called Lindsay who had a look and took some pictures herself then asked me to take a seat in the waiting area and went off in the car to another part of the site, came back around 40 minutes later and said that the wheel covers are classed as trim and is only covered for 12 months so I will have to pay to have them replaced I argued that it’s a paint problem and paint is covered for 3years but she said it’s not bodywork it’s plastic wheel covers so 1 year only on trim parts.
So once again the warranty as advertised 7years only MG cars does not hold true and to be honest is not worth the paper it’s written on, the cars are great valve for money but the after sales in regards to parts and warranty is not good enough as we have seen before from MG.
So I have ordered to new trims £122 plus Vat as they are really bad now, much more so than when I took the pictures so it will look better as they I hope shortly to get away from MG and the non existent 7year warranty before anything else goes wrong.

On my MG 5 FL trophy the chrome inserts on them wheels are also beginning to degrade no damage never been in a car wash but the chrome is peeling but I’m not even trying to get the wheels replaced under warranty.

Disgusting service from MG! Could you ask the dealer for “cost price”or if needs must “trade price” as they can see it’s not your fault. £183 out of pocket for poor quality parts in not on at all. Total rip off for plastic trim.

Sorry to hear this Les. Unfortunately it mirrors my own experiences about how little and how short some things are covered. I suppose it is the low-cost experience: low cost to buy the car but then high cost to maintain and fix the cost-cutting problems.

I do still love my car but I can’t see myself having another MG. This has been the most problems by far I have ever had with a new car coupled with the least helpful manufacturer's warranty policies.

Just move on - £20 each to replace each if you so wish - in the old days £80 was around 2 weeks of fuel ?? 🤷‍♂️ 🤷‍♂️ 🤷‍♂️ - sorry Les that is caused by a pressure washer not road rash? (We are on 40k miles with no issues)

Yes you’re right Tom I probably will be looking elsewhere also.

Hi Tig170 in one area you have a point but I did say in my first post this car as never been to a car wash and as never be hit with a pressure washer as I clean all my cars with an old fashioned bucket and sponge as I have always done this car as done 9100 miles and will be 3years old in October so very disappointing.

Wheel trims?

Well yes it’s an option but I think the trims are there to somehow reduce drag and therefore increase efficiency, I don’t know how or by how much and this might be important especially in the colder winter months, the the standard range 4 is to be honest is not that good even with the trims fitted but it’s my wife’s car and she likes the the on.
End off.

Ok guys&gals had a phone call to say the new wheel trims for my wife MG4 had arrived.
So i must first apologise for quoting above the price was to be £122 plus Vat the £122 was inclusive of vat I miss heard the figure.

Next I want to say thank you to Gary333 who at #25 prompted me to ask for the discount so when I went to collect them, I spoke with Lindsey at Chorley MG and ask that question could some discount be applied as this is a fault not sometime we had damaged or caused and she agreed with me and after speaking to the parts manager they gave me a 15% discount on the new trims saving us around £15 thank you Lindsey and thank you gary333.
I fitted them this afternoon after giving the wheels a good clean which I was surprised where quite dirty but the trims have never been taken of before I don’t think.
