Update on this - At the weekend, the front and rear deflectors (former attached with 3m tape, latter with original sticky stuff) on the sunny side of the car both came off as I was driving across the the country. I'll be taking the other two off this weekend and not replacing them :(

A 3kW charger will draw up to 13 Amps. Using a 10 Amp cable is dangerous.

You might want to take it to an independent vehicle engineering specialist - if what you have descriebed here is accurate then there is a fault with your car. MG aren't easily going to admit any liability. Speak to your insurance company too.
