battery

An electric battery is a source of electric power consisting of one or more electrochemical cells with external connections for powering electrical devices.
When a battery is supplying power, its positive terminal is the cathode and its negative terminal is the anode. The terminal marked negative is the source of electrons that will flow through an external electric circuit to the positive terminal. When a battery is connected to an external electric load, a redox reaction converts high-energy reactants to lower-energy products, and the free-energy difference is delivered to the external circuit as electrical energy. Historically the term "battery" specifically referred to a device composed of multiple cells; however, the usage has evolved to include devices composed of a single cell.Primary (single-use or "disposable") batteries are used once and discarded, as the electrode materials are irreversibly changed during discharge; a common example is the alkaline battery used for flashlights and a multitude of portable electronic devices. Secondary (rechargeable) batteries can be discharged and recharged multiple times using an applied electric current; the original composition of the electrodes can be restored by reverse current. Examples include the lead-acid batteries used in vehicles and lithium-ion batteries used for portable electronics such as laptops and mobile phones.
Batteries come in many shapes and sizes, from miniature cells used to power hearing aids and wristwatches to, at the largest extreme, huge battery banks the size of rooms that provide standby or emergency power for telephone exchanges and computer data centers.
Batteries have much lower specific energy (energy per unit mass) than common fuels such as gasoline. In automobiles, this is somewhat offset by the higher efficiency of electric motors in converting electrical energy to mechanical work, compared to combustion engines.

What is the MG4 Battery Saver Mode meant to do?

Also, what does it do in the real world? If anyone could kindly shed some light on this please :)

    Battery Heater

Just realised that all MG 4’s have battery heating. My limited understanding of a battery heater is that you use it before you plug in to charge to speed it up, but I presume you have to do it automatically on the SE as there is no sat nav? Also, are their any other benefit to heating the...

Battery Charging / Range Anomalies - anyone have the same experience?

Hi all, just want to share a few strange things happening recently and if anyone has had similar experience - MG ZS Mk2 SR, current odometer reading 1800miles: 1) Recently I've been seeing around 110 miles travelled with still 45% left in battery. Really chuffed and thinking that gives me...

    Battery Preheat.

When should I use it, under what circumstances, is it on a timer, should it be left on all the time or is it manual operation? All questions I have put to one side since we got the ZS in May as its been summer months all the way. Now with the temperature falling, I am interested in what this...

    Off-peak battery installation

We have our ZS LR Trophy on order and have a quote for an Ohme charger so we can go on the Octopus Intelligent tariff. I've done the sums and I want to get a home battery solution which would also charge during the off-peak rate so we can use the cheap rate during the day, minimising the amount...

MG4 Intelligent battery heating on SE?

Hi, I've been playing with a few settings on my MG4 SE and have seen the intelligent battery heating option. It can be turned on and off. In my previous model 3 this made a big difference to charging times and it worked if you navigated to a supercharger. My question is, can this be...

ZS EV LR - battery charge level wrong? (sticking at charged level)

Hi all, I’m three weeks into my ‘22 ZS EV LR ownership and loving it. Has anyone seen the battery charge level “sticking” at the level it reached at the end of the last charge? About 11 miles ago I took it from about 20% to 49% charge on a 50kW charger (thanks Tesco) then from 50% to the target...

    Battery Heater

Hi all, hope you have all been getting MORE positive results from mg regarding delivery dates. 11. Battery Cooling Pump, Vibration on acceleration. Anyone else?

OK, I’ve done 250 miles in my Trophy since last Friday. I notice a vibration through the car when accelerating hard. I don’t do that very often but the vibration is definitely there. I think that the vibration may be from a cooling fan that kicks in when the battery is being pressed hard but I...

    Battery 0%

Morning All, Yesterday had my first real range anxiety. Took it all the way down to under 10 miles. I drove in E with KERS on 3 trying to not go above 20% power. Thankfully my Ohme Home Pro is installed so I’ll be getting daily top ups and not using the granny charger. I won’t be doing...

    Pre heating the battery?

Hi all Just watched the latest Rev Matchers video on youtube, and he talked about the fact he hadn’t pre heated the battery, but as it was only 8c, that he should have. So is pre heating a thing? And if so at what temperature ? And How?
  15. High voltage battery care

Reading the manual I'm not quite clear on the notes about charge levels (manual p.295) for maintaining a healthy battery pack "When using the vehicle on a daily basis, it is recommended to fully charge it at least once a week, which is conducive to the health maintenance of the high-voltage...

How to disassemble an MGZS EV battery

What's the lowest you've ever let your battery get to, and were you worried?

First time today I've let it go under 20%. At 17% it gave me the equivalent of a fuel light. I don't know how much I trust the "remaining miles" counter to see if I can drive it to work (where there are cheap chargers) vs. stick some in at home... It's certainly not given me the number of miles...
