charging

A charging station, also called an EV charger or electric vehicle supply equipment (EVSE), is a piece of equipment that supplies electrical power for charging plug-in electric vehicles (including hybrids, neighborhood electric vehicles, trucks, buses, and others).
Although batteries can only be charged with DC power, most electric vehicles have an onboard AC-to-DC converter that allows them to be plugged into a standard household AC electrical receptacle. Inexpensive low-power public charging stations will also provide AC power, known as "AC charging stations". To facilitate higher power charging, which requires much larger AC-to-DC converters, the converter is built into the charging station instead of the vehicle, and the station supplies already-converted DC power directly to the vehicle, bypassing the vehicle's onboard converter. These are known as "DC charging stations". Most fully electric car models can accept both AC and DC power.
Charging stations provide connectors that conform to a variety of standards. DC charging stations are commonly equipped with multiple connectors to be able to supply a wide variety of vehicles.
Public charging stations are typically found street-side or at retail shopping centers, government facilities, and other parking areas.

Granny charging - only option - will it be enough?

Still in process of working towards getting my MG5 LR but I think I've hit a big snag :( Basically my garage, where I thought I would be charging, is away from the house (i.e. not attached or even that near) and almost certainly has the wrong grade cabling + power supply for a home charger...

    MG5 LR Charging

I have had my MG5 LR for a month now, I have a query regarding charging. Whenever I have charged the car there doesn't appear to be any sign of a light on the MG badge, which I have seen mentioned on the previous version. Likewise I can find no reference to a light in the charging flap in the...

  9. Wireless mobile phone charging

Am I right in thinking you still need to hardwire for data transmission - i.e. Android Auto? If so the facility is not as useful as I thought. I'm not knocking the car if this is correct I'm sure it is common to all manufacturers and I only ask out of ignorance. It will also save me bothering...

    Which charging cable?

Hi Newbie question: I’ve just bought my MG5 and am loving it. I have ordered a 7kWh home charger but I’m not sure what charging cable to buy. For 99% of the time I will be charging at home, so a 32amp 7kWh cable is fine. But, there will be times when I will need to do a rapid charge if we go...

Charging at home well below 7kwhr
