charging

A charging station, also called an EV charger or electric vehicle supply equipment (EVSE), is a piece of equipment that supplies electrical power for charging plug-in electric vehicles (including hybrids, neighborhood electric vehicles, trucks, buses, and others).
Although batteries can only be charged with DC power, most electric vehicles have an onboard AC-to-DC converter that allows them to be plugged into a standard household AC electrical receptacle. Inexpensive low-power public charging stations will also provide AC power, known as "AC charging stations". To facilitate higher power charging, which requires much larger AC-to-DC converters, the converter is built into the charging station instead of the vehicle, and the station supplies already-converted DC power directly to the vehicle, bypassing the vehicle's onboard converter. These are known as "DC charging stations". Most fully electric car models can accept both AC and DC power.
Charging stations provide connectors that conform to a variety of standards. DC charging stations are commonly equipped with multiple connectors to be able to supply a wide variety of vehicles.
Public charging stations are typically found street-side or at retail shopping centers, government facilities, and other parking areas.

    GRIDSERVE Charging Station issues M5 & M6

Gridserve. Possibly the worst provider on the M5 & M6 unless you like wasting 45 minutes for less than 5Kwh even though app states a fast charge. New models have Vehicle to Load charging

Looking through the brochures I see the new ZS, 5 and Marvel R all have V2L. I'm really interested in this as I'm just about to spend £10k on a home battery solution and if it the car has V2L to allow you to put power back to the grid (ie and run your house) then I'd much rather spend £10k extra...

    Charging across Europe

In August I drove my EV to Portugal and thought I'd share what I learnt. Portugal In Portugal there is a law that mandates that ALL public chargers must allow any approved App/RFID to operate them, so all chargers basically work on just one app / RFID card. When I went to sign up I found that...

    Odd charging issue

Evening, kind of pushed my luck tonight... well sort of! Left home at about 50% and did a 90 mile round trip - got down to about 9% when I got to the Gridserve on the services. Not a drop of volts left it, just said "connected, not charging" in the car. The rapid unit said something about...

    Opinions on DC Home Charging

Hi, I'd be interested to hear what others here on the forum have to say about Home DC Charging. Battery charging beyond 80 percent

Most experts and publications recommended not charging the EV battery beyond 80%. They also advise keeping it between 30 to 80 percent as far as possible.
