electric

Electricity is the set of physical phenomena associated with the presence and motion of matter that has a property of electric charge. Electricity is related to magnetism, both being part of the phenomenon of electromagnetism, as described by Maxwell's equations. Various common phenomena are related to electricity, including lightning, static electricity, electric heating, electric discharges and many others.
The presence of either a positive or negative electric charge produces an electric field. The movement of electric charges is an electric current and produces a magnetic field.
In most applications, a force acts on a charge with a magnitude given by Coulomb's law. Electric potential is typically measured in volts.
Electricity is at the heart of many modern technologies, being used for:

Electric power where electric current is used to energise equipment;
Electronics which deals with electrical circuits that involve active electrical components such as vacuum tubes, transistors, diodes and integrated circuits, and associated passive interconnection technologies.Electrical phenomena have been studied since antiquity, though progress in theoretical understanding remained slow until the 17th and 18th centuries. The theory of electromagnetism was developed in the 19th century, and by the end of that century electricity was being put to industrial and residential use by electrical engineers. The rapid expansion in electrical technology at this time transformed industry and society, becoming a driving force for the Second Industrial Revolution. Electricity's extraordinary versatility means it can be put to an almost limitless set of applications which include transport, heating, lighting, communications, and computation. Electrical power is now the backbone of modern industrial society.

    "...so long, and thanks for all the fish..."

    I had enough of mourning about my dislikes and traded my 6 months old MG4 Excite 51 for a BMW i3 (94Ah, 27.2 kWh usable) BEV. Yes there are pros and cons... no argument there. I just felt overwhelmed by the latter. Thanks for having me, and all the great wealth of knowledge you guys are sharing...

    Statistics gone from the App?

    There was an app update a few updates ago that showed statistics for the usage of the car and battery, but just realised it’s not there anymore… Anyone else have the data/statistics still? Seems crazy reducing functionality of the app, especially when the data is (should be) there. Thanks in...

    SE LR not achieving range I'd expect. Anyone to compare with?

    SE LR not achieving range I'd expect. Charged my 2023 SE LR yesterday to 80% and drove 101 miles achieving an average speed of around 53mph due to spending over half of that time on the motorway. After 101 miles I was left with 20% battery. Can anyone tell me if this is roughly expected? The...

    EO charger obsolete.

    I have an EO Mini Pro charger fitted in Feb 2020. This ceased to function in Feb 2024 coincidentally at or about the same time that Juucenet/Enel x withdrew their software support. I have had to wait until now for an engineer to come and look at it (at my cost of £92.50 + VAT). They took one...

    Battery degraded by approx. 20 miles in 10 months

    Hi all, I bought my 44.5 kWh ZS EV (2020 model) about 10 months ago and last Summer I charged it a several times using a fast charger (BP Pulse) and achieved figures like 148 miles and 152 miles at 100% capacity. During the Winter months I didn’t travel very far so tended to just top up with...

    Poor range on used Trophys - Problem?

    I'm going to be viewing some used Trophys in the next couple of days. I noticed on Autotrader that there seems to be some crazy deviation between the ranges on cars. Some are reporting 250+ plus, but others are scraping the barrel at well under sub 200. I've popped a couple of examples below of...
