A strange thing happened this morning whilst trying to charge my Trophy at an Instavolt charger. Payment accepted and confirmed, charger connected. Started countdown trying to connect after 40 seconds connected and then stopping message came up and charge full notice, but screen showed only 76%. No charge added and HV battery warning light on car screen.
Unplugged and gave up trying to charge. Drove away and miles per kWh was showing 9 miles to the KWh and stayed at this level for over 40 miles, then slowly went down to 5 miles to the kWh over the next 30 miles. I stopped and powered down twice but still went back to the same level as before stopping. Great for fuel consumption, but worrying.

Has anyone else has a similar experience?

Sort of, it wasn't an Instavolt charger, but after using a rapid charger to charge car, battery percentage altered to level of charge added. Drove off, battery percentage did not drop, and miles per kWh kept going up until maximum (20 miles per kWh) Stayed like that despite covering many miles until I connected car to a normal AC charger, at which point the battery percentage changed to the actual level. I charged to 100% just in case, and allowed it to complete a balance charge. Everything was fine after that, and it's not happened again. This was at least a year ago.

That's certainly weird. I wonder if it's unbalanced, and one or more cells were full, but the average was 76% usable. That seems like a pretty large imbalance, but it's possible if the BMS hasn't seen 100% for a while, especially if you have an LFP battery.

I note that @dsimpkins had his symptoms stop following a balance. @meandi, have you balanced recently?

@meandi sometimes you need to take the weight of the charging cable off the charging port by lifting the cable slightly. This allows the top pins which communicate with the charger to engage properly. Once the charger has got the information, which only takes a second, you can let go.

Here's what each type of pin does:

  • Power Pins (L1, L2, L3, N):
These are the larger pins that carry the electrical current from the charging station to the vehicle to charge the battery. L1, L2, and L3 represent different phases of AC power, with single-phase charging using L1 and N, and three-phase charging utilizing all three live pins and neutral.

  • Protective Earth (PE):
This pin provides a safety grounding connection to prevent electrical shock in case of a fault.

  • Control Pilot (CP):
This pin facilitates communication between the EV and the charging station. It informs the vehicle about the charging capabilities of the station and negotiates the maximum charging current the vehicle can accept, as well as signaling when charging should start and stop.

  • Proximity Pilot (PP):
This pin is used to detect the presence of the charging cable and inform the charging equipment about the cable's type and its current-carrying capacity. This helps ensure the charger is supplying power at a safe and appropriate level for the connected cable.

After using the MG4 V2L function a number of times, my consumption went up to 28kwh per 100kms and guestimate range of 180kms ..... it is slowly returning to an expected range and consumption, so the guessing is up to the driver now

Freaked the wife out when she had to drive back to Wollongong from the airport, still had 76% remaining, but a guesomation of under 80kms A panicked phone call but all sorted once I explained why the guesometer was not reading accurately
