Android Auto stopped working

Has anyone else's Android Auto stopped working recently?

I've been using it since I got the car and today it stopped. I tried multiple cables and none recognise my phone. The phone knows to open android Auto but the car doesn't.

Have to hard reset the headunit by holding the home button for 10sec?

I really didnt want to do that incase it broke anything else. Also we shouldnt have to should we... its been working fine.

It doesn't do anything other than reboot the headunit, unfortunately anything with a computer onboard will most likely at some point require a reboot, unless it is a RTOS hardcoded system with a single job to do.

I have had issues with it but mostly Google maps freezing. 1 thing that doesn't make any sense is if your phone is connected to the usb why do you still have to connect to the Bluetooth?

Because that's just the way AA works. ?‍

This is because, when you're using the usb connected version of Android Auto, phone calls are still directed to your car via Bluetooth instead of through the usb. That usb connection is used for transmitting the data you see on your car's screen as well as music.

Lose Bluetooth connection lose contacts, lose sms alerts etc.

Yes I tried turning it off to stop the media system turning over to Bluetooth music every 10 minutes ?

BT music doesn't work for me (from my phone) when the phone is plugged in - AA takes over, and music plays via AA (over the USB connection). BT music doesn't find any data source.?‍

It doesn't seem to matter if the phones plugged in or not if I go back to the home screen it will be on BT music ?‍

Both Google and Apple, by default, start playing music as soon as your phone connects to your car's Bluetooth head unit. This is because your phone assumes that you would want to start listening to music as soon as you start driving.


I believe you can turn Bluetooth off in other music apps but it could be a pain..

I do have music player's on the phone but never leave them on, I generally close all aps

So can you establish what source is BT playing? I know this sounds stupid and you know this but some had the car defaulting to radio at times

It doesn't actually play anything just switches to BT music?

Got it. And all your music apps are fully shut down (even forced stopped) not just paused, inactive? You would think it is detecting a bluetooth request?‍

That's caused by your phone notification settings not the head unit.

Agreed. AA needs the Bluetooth connection so you cannot just turn it off. Something is requesting Bluetooth music or is the car reverting to BT music instead of radio for example. When I inplug the phone in my car (not yet MG4) its only connected to Bluetooth for telephony but not Bluetooth music

Mine still connects to Bluetooth music and anything that can use Bluetooth.

My Apple music player uses AA, no Bluetooth enabling on it hence when I unplug from the USB I get glorious silence but telephony, messaging etc. is still working. AA, which is my preference, only uses Bluetooth for the telephony element with media and data via USB. So is the MG media head unit designed to revert to last used media or BT music?

FWIW my car always reverts the DAB radio when I get in the car, regardless if I last used AA music. (Of course the phone is not connected when I first get in, but still the head unit reverts to DAB radio).
