It's time for my Friday afternoon special to have it's first service. I was hoping the price would be <£100, however it looks like that's not going to happen.

I thought I'd share the prices quoted, so far I have the following quotes for the "service" (i.e. walk around the car and confirm it is indeed an MG4 - ca-ching, money please :p)

Area / Cost £
Barnsley = £133
Sheffield = £135
Doncaster = £145
Chesterfield = £145
Leeds = £154
Nottingham = £162
York = Did not Answer

Yep that's about it. A quick look over.
Had mine done the other week, £143 please. I waited while they did it. Well walked to a nearby Maccies. Got a breakfast, did a couple of crosswords. Just over an hour, got a phone call, it's ready. Walked back, job done. 🙂👍

Hi, has you car done less than 10K if so you could ask for a low mileage service.

Have to wonder if this is anything more than dealerships hanging on to their traditional way of working. ICE's have regular services mainly to change fluids. EV's don't have much that needs changing. I've had my Tesla for nearly two years. It'll tell me when it wants a service, so far not a peep out of it.

I'm thinking of changing to a Tesla for that very reason. £162 was a rip off.

God help you if yu do, had a Model 3 for three years, that was long enough.
But from a servicing point of view it is 2 years and then just minor stuff, mobile ranger did it while at work so convenient.

My local dealer in Coventry has charged £180 for year 1 and for year 2.
It seemed to be a matter of what can they get way with locally rather than a corporate decision from the top.

We get free AA assistance with our dealership, providing we service with them.

I just booked the 2 year service on my MG4 and was offer a low mileage service for £153. Glad I didn't go for the service plan.
I think you may have been better off with a service plan because looking at your cost of £153 for a service For one service =£459 for 3 of them over 3years.

I took out a service plan with my dealer when we purchased the MG4 on a monthly DD and the total cost for 3years as been £332 we have had 3 services done plus had full breakdown cover with the AA ( not that it’s been needed ) and on a quick check today for the same cover with the AA it’s £159 for one year x that by 3 =£477 so think our service plan has work very well indeed.

If I could get a service plan for £332 I'd be tempted, but it's a lot more than that. The AA cover doesn't really come into it as you get that with the dealer service anyway.

Right further more on servicing cost after my post at #13 so the other day I had the wife’s MG4 in for service as part of the service plan we had taken on 3 years ago so the plan included 3 annual services and in that time it as done a touch over 10,000 miles so now we are at the end of that 3year contract I ask for a quote for the next 3years which we take the car up to 6years old as I was quoted the figures you can see in the picture below so around double what the first service plan was.

Hit 15,000 miles in mine at 11 months and paid £150. Garage had a bonus out of me though in that it had the LKA recall updates already done but they noticed it wasn't registered with MG (I'd done it myself) and hence claimed it for themselves 🤔🤣

Hi all,
I took out a 3 year plan on my MG4 from new with Vic Young in Dec 2022. They charged me £244.80 for the 3 years @ £6.80 per month, which I thought was reasonable.
Didn’t include the first MOT, but did include, AA renewal, any fluids/ consumables recommended by MG for each service and software updates. Asked them for a new plan going forward and they quoted:

3 year service plan including 3 x MOTs:
£980.64. @ £27.24 per month.
So a big jump in prices going forward. Even if you take off the price of a MOT, which they currently charge at £39 a pop.

So I shopped around and Arnold Clark quoted:
2 Year service plan with 2 MOTs - £469.00
3 Year service plan with 3 MOTs - £589.00.
4 Year service plan with 4 MOTs - £749.00.
All prices inclusive of VAT.
This included the same as Vic Young, but not software updates and don’t do a Direct Debit, you pay in full.

So a big difference in price. I plan to keep the car long term and would be tempted to go for the 4 year plan and this will take the car upto 7 years old when the warranty runs out.

Do you think this is the way to go.

I'll find out my options later this month when mine goes in for its third service and first MOT with Arnold Clark East Kilbride. I paid £399 when I bought the car for that service plan but only one of the services was a "major" one (2nd one). Going forward a 3 year plan would include two "major" services (4th and 6th), and the 4th service is a major "major" one as it includes the diff gearbox oil change.
