Google Assistant not working

Anyone else having issues with Google assistant?

I have never once managed to use a voice command to type something into maps.
As soon as I press to speak into maps while driving for example, the assistant comes up and immediately closes.

I'm using wireless AA through a carlinkit if that helps, going to experiment with a cable tomorrow but wondering about other people's experiences?

Have had that happen to me on occasion but I don't use a wireless AA adapter

It seems to fix itself eventually but can come back

Works fine for me, albeit can be slow to respond to the voice activation. (i.e. press and hold then release the steering wheel button and it can take a few seconds for Assistant to beep to denote it is ready to receive a voice command).
