My 20 month old car won't open on both left and right sides when I press the door handle but opens when I press the key fob.Any easy solutions rather than taking it into the dealer.

Try spraying around the button with WD40 PTFE spray and see if that helps at all. Maybe water has somehow got to the contacts and is creating enough corrosion resistance to stop a clear pulse getting through to the sensor that triggers the lock release

It would seem strange that both buttons failed at the same time, wouldn't it? Or did they go at different times?

Had to take my car into the dealer the other day for them to agree the driver's door button not working.

I tried contact cleaner but I suspect the contacts are encased to be waterproof. I think using a freeing agent only helps if the door button fails to move when pressed.

Maybe disconnect the 12V battery for an hour - seems very unlikely that both fail at the same time

@Toadroy, had they worked previously?
Does the tailgate open ok with the keyless entry? Also, have you tried with your second key. It might be an issue with one of the keys. Is there any "smart key not detected" messages when you get into the car?
If you've tried all these these and it's all ok then it looks like the door switches have failed. Typically when they do this there is no mechanical feel to the door switch they just feel spongy.

Had to have mine replaced under warranty. Took a few weeks to get the new handle in and paint it.
Rarely used the passenger side button, so that was still OK.

Some possibilities have been mentioned that seem plausible...
1. Handle buttons have failed. Seems to happen during the freezing months. Door handles can be replaced under warranty if this has happened but it is a pain.
2. Fuse issue.

Some other possibilities...
3. You've unknowingly disabled this feature in the car menu.
4. Your key is not being detected when near the car (perhaps it is low on battery power and the car can't detect it). Perhaps that is the reason for the above suggestion to check that the proximity boot opening system still works.

Actually yes it seemed to wait ages when I left the car at the park and ride.

Agree. If you give it a quick press, it's sometimes a few seconds before it actually locks. So I tend to press it and keep my finger/thumb on it just to make sure it's locked. Only about 2/3 secs. 🙂👍

Mine sometime work, sometimes don’t. It feels like it’s software (who’d have thought) related though as you can lock car using key fob and then it might work, possibly on one side, then nothing, then maybe other side. Seems more problematic in cooler (not frozen) weather
