Has anyone taken out an MG service plan? I'm thinking of doing so, but there's very little detail about what you're actually buying on the MG website?

Some specific questions

  • You're asked to nominate a service location as you sign up. Is the plan tied to this location, or honoured by all service centres?
  • Is the plan transferable to a new owner if the vehicle is sold?

I think you are buying the plan from the dealer via MG so I doubt it's transferable between service centres. No idea if the actual ownership is transferable.
As for what is included, it's whatever the current due service is, i'e. 1 yr, 2 yr, 3 yr etc.

The service plan will fix the cost of all services within your selected number of years which will maintain your warranty and include AA assist. It’s set up with your nominated dealer so only they can do the servicing.

Plan is not transferable, but all unused contributions can be transferred to a new MG ( I moved mine from my x power to my S6} or can be refunded less a £30 admin fee (current).

Hope that helps.

Is this supposition or experience? I may not have made it clear that I'm talking about buying through the MG website, not directly from a dealer.

Is this in writing anywhere?
Hope that helps.
It does - thanks!

When you buy through the MG site the response will come from the dealer (I have done this, I know). MG is just the middle man, it's the dealer who gets your money and services the car.

Many thanks for this. I'll think more, but probably not bother then.

Personal experience, x power purchased through MG website, transfer sorted by dealer.

Just FYI, purchased a 3 year service plan for my 2024 x power, only had a single service, 2025, changed to new s6 in January, took out a new 3 year plan on it, dealer arranged transfer of funds in their entirety to it, paying £7 a month for it with the credit. Well pleased.

If you are looking for this (original CN version is attached as well):

Maintenance Schedule

The recommended maintenance schedule in the manual is based on test operating conditions to achieve the optimal maintenance cycle. Your vehicle must undergo its first maintenance within 3,000 km or 3 months to check the balanced state of the high-voltage battery pack. Thereafter, based on comprehensive factors such as domestic road conditions and driving conditions, follow either the "Regular Maintenance Schedule" or "Severe Maintenance Schedule".
To maintain the performance of the high-voltage battery pack, it is recommended that customers perform balanced charging on a regular basis (e.g., once a month). For details, refer to the User Manual.

Regular Maintenance Schedule

Applicable Conditions

  • Transport passengers and goods within the range recommended by the technical data in the User Manual;
  • Drive at speeds permitted by traffic laws and regulations on suitable road surfaces;
  • Use the recommended fluids and lubricants.

Maintenance Interval

A maintenance interval of 20,000 km / 12 months is provided for general maintenance items.
Note 1: Whichever comes first between mileage and months shall prevail.Note 2: If the vehicle is equipped with an intelligent maintenance reminder function, follow the information displayed on the vehicle screen.

General Items

表格
CategoryNo.Maintenance Item
Vehicle Interior and Exterior1Check the function of the parking brake, adjust or perform system self-learning if necessary
2Check the function of interior and exterior lights, horn, and system warning displays

3Inspect the appearance of high/low voltage connectors to confirm no surface damage and proper installation
4Check the windshield washer fluid level and top up to the standard level as needed
5Check the brake fluid level and top up to the standard level as needed
6Check the condition of the cooling system, including cooling pipes, radiator, cooling fan, etc.; clean relevant surfaces if necessary

3Check the appearance of the high-voltage battery pack vent valve for damage, and whether the installation mark is displaced
4Check the installation position of the cooling water pipe clamps to ensure reliable sealing
5Check whether the installation mark of the high-voltage battery pack mounting bolts is displaced, and ensure tightness
6Check the appearance of the high-voltage battery pack housing (including brackets) for cracks and deformation
7Check the condition and thickness of front and rear brake pads and brake discs; replace if necessary
8Check the condition of brake lines

For vehicles equipped with an intelligent maintenance reminder function, reset the maintenance interval in the infotainment head unit. Read and clear fault codes and check the operating status of the control system
2Check for new ECU (Electronic Control Unit) software versions; update to the latest version in a timely manner if available
3Check the balanced state of the high-voltage battery pack; recommend the customer to perform balanced charging if necessary
4Perform a road test to check the status and function of the power system, braking, steering, and other systems

Special Items

  • Airbag and seat belt pretensioner (if equipped): Recommended replacement every 10 years;
  • Panoramic sunroof glass guide rail (if equipped): If the vehicle is frequently driven in a wooded or sandy environment, sand and dust particles may enter the sunroof glass guide rail, reducing the lubrication performance of the guide rail grease, causing abnormal sunroof operation or even jamming. In this case, please visit an authorized SAIC New Energy vehicle after-sales service center for cleaning and grease maintenance.
  • (Panoramic) sunroof drain pipe: It is recommended to check the drainage function for smoothness every 1 year, and clean and unclog if necessary.

  3. Frequently parked in a humid environment or frequently driven through water;
  4. Driven in mountainous conditions;
  5. Used for special purposes such as taxis, police cars, or transport vehicles.

Specific Items

  1. If the vehicle is frequently driven in a cold or humid environment, replace the brake fluid every 40,000 km or 1 year (whichever comes first);
  2. If the vehicle is driven in a dusty or sandy area, check the air conditioning filter element every 5,000 km and replace it if necessary;
  3. If the brakes are used excessively frequently (e.g., when driving in mountainous areas), inspect or replace brake discs and brake pads more frequently.

Good evening,

Unfortunately that is not something we can see on our system and we are not technically trained so we cannot advise if your software is up to date.

It would have to be the dealership.

Kind Regards,
